Surprised that they don't include Indonesia... Singapore is the next cheapest.

Shame they won't be in Oneworld until 2014.

~5k AUD Business Class to Europe is good value though.

Redeeming for upgrades on Qatar doesn't seem worth it... Not that you can use miles to upgrade the above fares.

NICE! I've been looking for some good J fares to Europe for March next year. I can't afford the $5000 - $6000 of even the sale fares ex MEL so have been looking for something good value to book ex Asia and then I will add on a cheapy from here to get there. I looked at ex SIN, ex KUL and ex BKK and the ex BKK flights were much cheaper. Managed to bag a BKK-MXP return in J for approx $2200 AUD.

Now to find something MEL-BKK return. JQ dont fly JQ29/30 on the days I want so I will need to find something else. Any suggestions?

Cheers

I'd suggest a Lifemiles or US Airways redemption? Buy the miles, and redeem on Thai Airways?

Which programme will you be crediting the miles to?

ANA - Economy (W,V) = 50%, Business (Z) class = 125%, First (A) class = 150%
Asiana - Economy (W,V) = 50%, Business (Z) class = 100%, First (A) class = 150%
BMI - wound down, right?
United - ended Sept 14, 2012
US Airways - Economy (W,V) = 50%, Business (Z) class = 100%, First (A) class = 150%
Virgin Atlantic - ???

Good points Futaris, will look into it. I have a lifemiles membership but no points and I dont think they are running a 2 for 1 promo right now :(
I have not thought about who to credit the miles to yet. I dont have memberships in any of the programs you mention...

Di you try Sri Lanken, Singapore -Rome then LHR -Sing AUD 1798 buisness class?

hi there Bobe

I looked into Sri Lankan but times and routes didnt suit. I only need to go to MXP to visit family so want to keep well away from LHR.

Must..Fly, yes I'm leaning towards QF for the SC, points and FL. But I cant find the price you are quoting? is this at expedia.ie?

Thanks Futaris, I think its just that the prices for the dates I need are a bit higher for some reason. Dep MEL 16/3/13 Dep BKK 3 or 4/4/13.

Cheers

Looks like the fare sale has ended. Also, you are right it does seem like 16 March is a little pricier than other days

Thanks for your help! It never ceases to amaze me how knowledgeable and helpful members are here :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

matrix.itasoftware.com says only L class available on 16 Mar. V class available on 15 Mar.

That makes sense, no award seats available on the 16th either. Unfortunately I'm taking Mum with me and the 16th is the earliest she can go. I would have been happy to go a bit earlier and have a day or 2 in BKK.

Thanks again all!

cheers

No problems.

I'd say that L class fare is still the best. 1850 AUD and you'd earn points.

The only other reasonable alternatives are:

2 Economy ASAs = 46k QFF + $1,141 AUD for 2. L class.

Return from BKK:
BKK-KUL-MEL Air Asia X = ~550 AUD for 2
BKK-SYD-MEL QANTAS paid = ~1100 AUD for 2.

So either ~$1700 + 46k QFF, or $2250 + 46k QFF. Minus whatever QFF you'd earn. Each way, 10.3k QFF as a WP, 5.6k QFF as a NB.

If you've got enough points for the return, book the entire thing as an ASA:
92k QFF + ~$1670.

I've booked QF MEL-SYD-BKK return for approx $1250 AUD each. Looks like each way is L class so both are upgradeable.

Thanks for the help and suggestions everyone.

cheers
