Hi all,

I recently did a major household purchase through Qantasmall and while it said my transaction was 'tracked', only 29 points were credited. For context, I spent $4.5k and there was a promotion of 6 points per $ spent.

I raised the issue up with Qantasmall helpdesk in Phillipines but they said to refer back to retailer for help. They did recognise a technical error was detected but could not provide resolution or even escalate the situation on their end. To top it off, they also sent an email denying me my points as I had received a discount for bulk purchase. A discount they promoted on the Qantasmall website...

Now the retailer was quite helpful initially but once the payment was cleared, told me it was Qantas' problem and that they cannot help.

Well, aren't I up sh%t creek without a paddle.

Thankfully it was with Amex so I’ve raised a dispute. Might lodge in a complaint too to State consumer rights body. And no thanks, definitely not ACA. 😄

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'll be interested to hear AMEX's response. You'll have received the purchased goods just not the advertised bonus points.. ? AMEX might (hopefully) disagree, but I'd have thought the points promo was something between the Retailer, Qantas and you. Sure, it's an incentive to buy, but the core transaction has been fullfilled. A bit like disputing a Coles purchase because you didn't receive the advertised mini toy ...

BD

So far Amex is accepting my dispute. My counter is that the points are a tangible part of the marketing offer and it was the difference for me preferring this seller over another. Even without the promotion it was sitting at 4 points per dollar. I reiterate I only received 29.

Fulfilling the core promise isn’t the point when not everything I bought and am entitled to arrived despite following all their terms and conditions.

Kinda like buying a car with those $1000 fuel card promos and they say you don’t qualify despite following all the T&Cs. I’d argue it is a bit more consequential than a gift with purchase promotion.

Fair enough and I *do* understand your reasoning. Will be interested to see where you finish up with respect to the AMEX support.

I think they may be referring to this:
  1. Qantas Points will not be earned on tax and delivery charges, gift cards or orders redeemed with a gift card, purchases that include any voucher, coupon or discount code that is not sourced from the Online Mall platform.

Did you apply a discount code to your order, or did the retailer just give you a discount manually?

Applied as per T&Cs from the QantasMall site. In fact I was alerted to the potential discount from the QantasMall site. Not a manual or offsite discount that breached this T&C.

Seems they're making it up then. Nothing in the TandC about "bulk purchases" either. Curious as to how they credited only 29 points though?

Weird right? Like I said QantasMall acknowledged a technical error but then said we can neither provide you with an approximate time when this can be resolved nor escalate this to Qantas Australia.

P.S. We also don’t think you qualify for it despite the discount being advertised and applied automatically from our own website.
