Looks like as part of the new Port Lincoln service announced Qantas will be cycling the planes in from Melbourne. So for those of you that want to fly on a De Havilland DHC-8 400 Series aircraft here is your chance without ending up in a country town (no need for adl and country town jokes pls)

I wonder how many people will get shafted on to this service by their unaware TAs and spend an additional 10min in the air and go for a walk on the tarmac.

Example of this service is QF2066 operated Tues Wed Sat Sun. Flights will also run from MEL-ADL on the same days (QF2067, QF2069)

I was talking to someone last night that mentioned this is only until they get a Q400 base in ADL for the PLO services.

Of course, it may not be, but you'd hope it was only a temporary measure.

Personally I would have thought the GP booking their own flights online were more likely to get "shafted" as you say onto the Q400, agents at least have the information right in front of them on their GDS when booking whereas the GP in their haste to get it booked may well not bother to go to the trouble of looking up metal type.

On the plus side... QFLink have a bar service on weekend afternoons as well as weekdays so provided the flights are on a Sat/Sun it could actually be a positive.

Countered against the lower carry on baggage limit (both weight and number).

I would never class ending up on QFLink as being shafted, but more a good result

Baggage allowance is 23Kg regardless and for larger carry on items, the gate check works well ime

the leg room on the dash 8's is so much better than the 737!

Agreed, although the in-flight entertainment is limited to what is outside the window and perhaps magazines loaded by QantasLink.

Of course the staffers tend to be nicer on Qantaslink, and the catering better as a whole (excluding perhaps warm dinner time on Qantas).

and the liberal hand on the wine bottle pouring when teh bar is open
(even if teh beer is always VB!)

Now now... on the Qld services we get a choice of New or xx_X

For me it does not take much in the carry on bag to get to the 4kg limit. Just the bag and laptop seems to do it. :(

Just take onboard book/laptop and let the other bag be checked at the plane and collected on disembarkation

I'm not a fan of the DH-8 \ Q400's at all. Problem is they are also one of the stablemate a/c's used by QF between CBR \ SYD, I personally do all I can to avoid them. (I have just about memorised the flight numbers of the B737 services so I can avoid the Q400's at all costs).

I personally won't be rushing to fly MEL-ADL vv on one.

Completely agree. I hate flying on turbo props and, unfortunately, they are common on the CBR-MEL and CBR-SYD routes. Luckily, they are easy to identify (QF numbers above 1000 on those routes) and avoid (if you can be flexible with your flying times).

It's a what 30 minuite max airtime between CBR/SYD? I actually miss the DH8 flights I used to do (although prefer the 36 seater to the 70 seater Q400's) because on short sectors as this they are just as quick as the jets, particularly when accounting for boarding and disembarkation time, and the views are often a lot better out the window. And the crew always seem that little bit friendlier. And with premium tagging, no need to fight to fit luggage into O/H lockers. I guess I got used to flying around on Saab's & DH8's, and used to reallyenjoy those flights. You really feel like you're in the air, a sense you often don't get on bigger jets!

100% agree.

Huge fan of QFlink, their staff and all their aircraft. Love the Dash-8s and 717s.
