Qantas vs Qatar

Sorry newbie question here. Looking to book economy tickets Adelaide to Edinburgh next May. Qatar have came back $300 cheaper for same dates than Qantas. I am QF gold. Just wondered what the pros and cons were in terms of status credits, points and lounge access if I book Qatar. QF flight will be operated by Emirates. I did look on Emirates and they were most expensive (not by much) thanks

Be aware that depending on the fare class on Qatar, you probably won't any points or status credits.

Need to make sure you have QF flight no if flights are operated by Emirates too otherwise earn is very low.

And if Economy, you'd get the fairly average Business Class Lounge on Qatar, rather than the much nicer Al Mourjan lounge. Whereas the Emirates offering is much nicer.

To clarify - EK flight number = point earn only, QF flight number = points and SC earn as per a QF flight.

Also consider the lounge situation in Edinburgh . I'm really not that sure what your options with QF/EK would be. With QR you should at least have access to the OW lounges.

There was a recent Qatar review in Y by Dennis Bunnik on YouTube, worth watching. If flying make sure you take the newer 350 planes.

Sincere question; since OP is flying economy, I figured his only lounge access options would be based on being QF Gold, so why would flying QR (potentially) provide better lounge options?

Flying with QR the OP would have access to the OW lounges in EDI.
EK doesn’t have a lounge in EDI so my understanding is that even under a QF flight number the OP would have no lounge access in EDI if flying Y

Thanks Jase; so you're saying even if OP books a QF ticket (though operated by EK), that won't be enough to access OW lounges. Because even though a code-share the ticket/boarding pass won't have a QF flight# on it?
