I will soon be flying from the Gold Coast to SYD with Jetstar, then SYD to coughet with Jetstar later the same day. My question is, am I allowed to use the Qantas transfer bus to get from the SYD domestic terminal to the SYD international terminal?

For what's its worth:
  • I have redeemed Qantas FF points for all flights.
  • The Qantas website was used to book all flights.
  • I am a life member of the Qantas Club.
  • Qantas no longer operates out of the Gold Coast, hence why I am using Jetstar (an airline owned by Qantas) to get to SYD.
  • I am travelling Business Class ("Star Class") both ways to coughet.
From the above, I believe I've demonstrated enough loyalty to Qantas to enable a free ride on their transfer bus, but I have a feeling they won't be letting me on :)

If I am not allowed to use their bus, does anyone know who I can contact in Qantas to vent my (expected) frustration?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The jet* website states:
Sydney

At Sydney, Jetstar operates from Terminal 2 (T2) at Sydney Domestic Airport. Flights from Sydney to Melbourne operate to Avalon Airport. For international flights, Jetstar operates from the international terminal (T1).
Transferring from international flights to Jetstar flights
When transferring from international flights to Jetstar flights, you will always need to first collect your baggage and clear customs, then proceed with your baggage to Jetstar Check-in located in the domestic terminal.
  • Collect your baggage and clear customs.
  • Make your way from International terminal (Terminal 1) to Terminal 2 by AirportLink train or taxi. Cost: Train $4pp, taxi $8-$12.
  • If you are connecting to a Qantas codeshare flight QF5000-5999 (operated by Jetstar), you may use the complimentary Qantas Transfer service located at Arrivals level at International Terminal. (my highlight)
  • Jetstar check-in is at departures level at Terminal 2.
So, I can only assume it works in reverse between T2 and T1.

Jetstar does not provide baggage transfer for domestic to intl departures, but they do on reverse, so you would have to grab the bag, change terminal , get it scanned by security then try to hop on the bus. If it was me I would just grab the train, IMHO the $$$ saved are not worth it.

Hi P.A.,

Coincidentally i'm also travelling that route fairly soon - 21/8 to be precise. OOL-SYD-HKT all in Jetstar. But i managed to get the OOL-SYD on JQ20 (A330) which i believe is coming from Osaka-SYD via OOL i think) so i'm departing from the international terminal in OOL and arriving in T1. Saves me having to change terminals. I'm going to try and through-check my baggage from OOL straight to HKT - hopefully the OOL checkin staff will let me.

Which flight r u on maybe we are on the same flights!

Yeah, Qantas does seem to want to distance themselves away from Jetstar (once again ... not surprising really!).

Transferring from T2 and T3 (Domestic Airports) to T1 (International Airport):
The Transfer Lounge is located airside (after passing through the security check point), opposite Gate 1 in T3. A shuttle bus service is available to passengers that are travelling or have travelled on a Qantas flight (including codeshare flights) or oneworld flight. The shuttle buses operate as required, approximately every 10 minutes during non-peak periods . On arrival at T1 proceed up the escalator, through immigration and security to your departure gate.

Transferring between T3 and T2 (Domestic Airports):
Walking is the best method and takes approximately 7 minutes. Simply follow the pedestrian walkways and directional signs through the car park or through the airport train tunnel link.

Transferring from T1 (International Airport) to T2 and T3 (Domestic Airports):
A shuttle bus service is available to passengers that are connecting to a Qantas or QantasLink operated flight only. After you clear customs, recheck your baggage at the Seamless Transfer Check-in counters and then board the shuttle bus for the Domestic terminal. It operates from 6am to 12noon every 10 minutes and from 12noon until 9.00pm AEST every 20 minutes. The bus arrives at T3 opposite Gate 1. Check the screens for departure gate information. Passengers connecting to a flight not operated by Qantas or QantasLink should refer to the Sydney Airport website for further information on transfer options.
