I randomly tried to redeem tickets online to Asia countries and noticed Qantas is offering 20% off promotion discount. While the surcharge is still quite high, you can expect reduced points for redemption. Not sure if there is any expiration date or always 20% off for redemption similar as Singapore Air 15% online redemption.
