Hi All

Long time Qantas flyer finally with a question I can't find an answer to...

I've often wondered whether any Platinum One members actually sell the complimentary Platinum membership they receive as part of their tier benefits? Given the potential value of Platinum is huge (not to mention the soft landing of Gold the following year), I'm surprised this tier benefit doesn't have more stated restrictions than being able to sell to a family member or friend.

Anyone seen or heard of this going on? If so would be very interested to hear what people pay for it!

I can see this perk going the same way as ATA. :(

Edit: As you are a bit of an unknown (and even if you were not, by the way) I wouldn't expect anything of value to come of this. And welcome to AFF.

There was a similar question mentioned on this site a while back, with this being your first post I am assuming you are phishing for information, so this is my response.
  • Gifting WP to other than your partner was only introduced a year or 2 back.
  • There is no soft landing for complimentary WP, when the WP1 falls from grace the complimentary WP reverts to their original status.
  • When the question was last posted most WP1 indicated they would not be willing to risk their QF status or points for a few dollars.
So I guess the answer to your question is no.

Fishing maybe but phishing, no - it just seemed a curious oversight for a tier that would likely be highly valuable to many.

I certainly won't be risking it - far too useful keeping it in the family anyway 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

You would think, however can't find anything to suggest that to be the case 🤔

Clause 7.1(b)(iii) of the QFF terms and conditions states that:
7. Member obligations and responsibilities
7.1 Members must not:
(b) abuse or misuse Qantas Frequent Flyer, any Rewards, Benefits, facilities, services or arrangements accorded to the Member as a result of Membership including by:
(iii) selling, assigning, transferring or acquiring, or offering to sell, assign, transfer or acquire any Reward, Benefit or Qantas Points other than in accordance with these Terms and Conditions;
That's fairly conclusive.
Clause 8 goes on to state that:
8. Suspension or termination of Membership
8.1 If a Member has committed a material breach of any of the Terms and Conditions or has failed to pay any money due under Qantas Frequent Flyer, or Qantas Club or Qantas Business Rewards by the due date, whether intentionally or otherwise, then Qantas Loyalty may do any one or more of the following:
(a) suspend or terminate the Member's Membership and/or the right of the Member to use the Card;
(b) reverse or cancel the Member's Qantas Points or any part thereof; or
(c) cancel or refuse to honour any Rewards (including ticketed Reward Flights), Benefits or both, that have been redeemed by or provided to the Member.
So beware of the consequences!

I wouldn't even if it was an option.

I have gifted mine twice now - with great pleasure to see it used and enjoyed and great benefits to recipients... and that's been "payment" enough IMO.

I think it's great they expanded this benefit for P1's - I'd hate to see it go away.

Agree with both - all - of those sentiments.
It was a major advance when Qantas finally recognised the disadvantage to many of its Platinum One members of the original restrictive rules.
My Partner Platinum has been used with enormous appreciation by a friend since the relaxation of the conditions.
