Qantas Online Booking - Generic Error

Hi All,

Trying to book a mel to europe flight via Qantas online booking tool. If the route uses emirates, when I get to payment screen it bombs and gives "generic error".
Have tried many combinations (point with cash only, points only and points+pay) - they all fail.
Then tried a flight Mel to SIN on only qantas flights and that worked....

Has anyone else had this issue? The website was down this morning, but it was still happening.

I tried booking via phone, but they dont do points+pay which is our preferred method...

I've been having the same problem for several days. Qantas customer support said that none of the flights routed through Dubai can be booked using points yet - not ASA or Points + Pay. I was told they don't know when these will be available. In the meantime the price (and points needed) keeps going up

Thanks - at least it's not just me. The prices for the flights we want are really good so would like to ASA them rather than pay outright. If I pay outright, need another options for the wad of points in my account to help offset our European vacation!

EDIT: Note though that I also tried paying online without points (ie pure cash payment, did not even log in to my account) and that also does not work!

Hmm, that's even weirder! They told me that the flights were available commercially, just not for points. I know how you feel about the good prices. I'm also anxious to lock these in before they raise the fare - in the few days that Ive been trying to book, I've already seen an increase of over $400 on the VCE - DXB - SYD routing that I want .

haha - I'm after MEL-DXB-FCO / VCE-DXB-MEL (in Sept/Oct)

Bugger. Preferred dates just jumped $1700 ($400pp)... May have to bite the bullet and pay cash on our second dates.

If no-one minds, I'll keep updating this as it goes along....

Tried booking through call center and even they can't confirm the booking - there is a system issue with EK where the availability cannot be guaranteed. They will call me back with an update.

So still some system teething issues it appears.

vbap, thanks for the update. I posted a query about the issue on Qantas Facebook page. They responded there, asked for my mobile number and supposedly, one of their people is going to call me. Still waiting...

Just wondering, are you still hoping to get these flights on points? I just wondered if your more recent discussion with them was based on the assumption that you will pay cash or points?

Hope you hear back from them soon! Oh, and sorry about the jump in cost - I sympathise! Very frustrating when you have been trying to book at the lower figure

When I check in, yet the flight is MEL-LAX

Unfortunately, it seems to be a bit more than just the VCE issue , I just tried booking an ASA award SYD-FCO/ FCO-SYD and got the same generic error

OK, so I think there are 2 issues.

1. Cannot book an EK/EK codeshare flights using points (probably until official approval)
2. System issue with VCE-DXB routing - shows up and can be priced on the QF systems, but availability cannot be guaranteed by the system (I don't think VCE was listed as a codeshare city when the destinations were announced - only FCO and MXP).

I think in case on issue 1, you can still pay using cash. When I called the implication was that if the VCE leg is taken out or re-routed then I could pay (cash only - I didn't ask about points). In fact, she made a booking for me where the return journey is VCE-LHR-DXB-MEL (with VCE-LHR on BA). The cash price for this is about $70 more per person, but of course adds to the journey time.

I'm at a similar status now as, with the assistance of a qantas booking agent I've also finally got my SYD-DXB-FCO flights booked (using points). But have only got the VCE-LHR-DXB-SYD flight booked for the return. They are working on the glitch with emirates flights from VCE, i was told the issue has been "escalatated " and that Amadeus are dealing with it.

They dont have any idea when the problem will be sorted, I was told it could even take till the end of March, but I'm hoping that I can eventually be rebooked on the VCE-DXB-SYD routing.
