Hi all,

My membership anniversary is on May 31 each year and I am currently 20SC short to re-qualify for Gold (been Gold for the last 5,6 years). I am however will be taking a Sydney-Honolulu on May 30, which technically would get me over the line.

Does anyone know if the above scenario is valid to re-qualify? When I fly out on May 30, the SC will not be credited to my account until a couple of days later. Is there a condition somewhere that SC has to be credited BEFORE anniversary date?

I was in the same boat last year but received a comp from Qantas half way thru May, even though I have another flight booked at the end of May which would have got me re-qualified anyway.

Thanks

TT

I would book a short SYD to BNE return in QF discY or with a JQ plus bundle, seeing you are so close to it, would be a shame if for some reason, the SCs were late coming across.
Its been said on here that its quite fast, that SC adds on, but I have waited days after my flight before my SC adds on, ...
On my latest LAN flight, it didn't add on for days, so I posted a copy of my LAN eticket and a copy of the BP and the QF FF points and QF SC appeared.

SCs credit for the date of the flight even if this is retrospective, so, in this case, they will count towards your current year and you will hit SG. No need to book an unnecessary flight.

I believe that a 'Comp' is not a Comp if you end up getting there under your own steam.

Correct with that one.

SC count for the date/month earned so all is OK with this scenario.

No need for an extra flight.

There is absolutely no need to book another flight.

As pointed out by others, SC's earned in a membership year, no matter when they post, apply to that membership year. So even if the May 30 flight posts on April 7 it will be fine.

I daresay at 580 SC with a solid history of SG the OP will be requalified SG well before May 30 anyway, but the flight will count and it will not be an issue.

On a slightly different aspect, my year ends on 30 September and have a flight leaving LAX on the evening of 29 September, but due to International Date Line and flight time, arrives into Melbourne on the morning of 1 October. Is it the date the date the flight departs that counts ie SCs credited to this year's membership or the date the flight arrives at its destination ie SC credited to next year's membership?

Departure date of flight is what is credited, so it will be QF94 29SEP that is credited.. so no worries :)

Yes, SCs will count in the membership year, even if credited in the following membership year, so you will have no problems. In addition I seen it written that you will be credited with the SCs for the SCHEDULED departure time, so if your flight is delayed past the end of the membership year, you will be credited with the SCs when the departure was scheduled.

And say a flight on, for example, September 30 is cancelled and re-flown on Oct 1, you could claim Original Routing Credit to get the SC's credited for the 30th (or leave with credit on the 1st) depending on which membership year makes more sense for you. Of course this would be a rare occurance I'd think.

My understanding is you normally will only get one "comp" (but not necessarily so). If you requalify after a comp given earlier in the final month, the comp doesn't count and there should (maybe) be a comp waiting in the wings.

My date is the end of April, I got comped 3 weeks out this year, I am assuming with QF having knowledge of my 4 flights close to my renew date that gets me across the line

.... which leads to this question (for me, anyway :) ). When is a comp a Comp?

What do I mean? When QF say you only get one Comp in your lifetime (let's say this is the standard policy, and I'm using "Comp" to mean this sort) is that the sort when you call QFF directly and plead for some help to retain status etc and they grant it. Is this a different comp to the almost automatic one where you login to your account and get the magic "Congratulations! You've retained Gold ..." message.. or are they the same thing in QF's eyes?

does this make any sense what I'm saying/asking? :)

Makes perfect sense to me ... and one I'm interested to know the answer of too.

Must admit, it's only recently I've noticed reference to QF taking forward bookings into account; previously I thought you either re-qualified through the year or you missed out unless comped.
In the case of being comped, I would expect QF to write to tell me they'd graciously granted me complementary status the following year (so it's pretty explicit) - do they actually notify you of forward booking counting within this year's early requalification if this occurs?

The answer to this question might provide the answer RichardMEL and I are seeking.

Regards,

BD

Good point. I think QF should inform us of any one time comping, otherwise how would we know? I think that's fair enough.

The catch being I don't know that this is a published policy anywhere (perhaps internally, or not, and they wouldn't tell us that anyway)
