Recently had to "upgrade" my Amex due to reasons between Amex and my Association parting ways. So Went Amex Plat'n Edge, was talking with Amex customer service on a separate issue and came across the fact by accident, that Qantas, bless their flea-bagged-penny-pinching souls, have decided to rip-off their points holders YET AGAIN!!! Just last week they made this change with no fanfare or anything akin to a notice, BUT now, unless you have a QANTAS branded card, you CAN NOT access reward points to convert to FF miles on Qantas. Where was that announcement????? Even the Amex CS person was quietly p'd off. So with the ability to gain upto 3 points per $, Virgin will get all our business as the Irish born business killer continues to destroy one the last iconic Australian business. Wonder what Paddy would have to say??

I've just gone onto the Amex website and can initiate a transfer of Membership Reward points to my QF account.

I don't have a CC, but I thought the change to only direct-earn CC's happened long ago?

I'm not sure that bringing the CEO's ethnicity up does anything for your argument. Where he was born has nothing to do with the business decisions he or the company makes.

EXACTLY! It has been done under the "stealth of night" program they seem to like deploying at Qantas. Really poor form!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Dont know about your particular card, but several years ago Qantas changed their FF point transfer policy. only QF branded cards will be able to transfer points to QFFP. Additionally the transfer is automatic and monthly.

There are some premium, high annual fee cards like Amex platinum and Citi prestige whichallows you to opt out of the QF direct transfer.

As usual your own enquiries will be more accurate

Not sure if Nationality makes any difference to how business decisions are made. The irish man is also short, gay, and speaks in a strange accent and Im sure none of these have had any influence on the recent Qantas turnaround either.

Im always slightly amused when people say "Ill never fly airline "a" again". I wonder what will they will do when airline "b" disappoints them...Airline "c"....Airline "d".
As sure as night follows day...all airlines, banks, telephone companies, insurance companies, political parties will disappoint eventually....

Just bear in mind: 1 Amex point is not necessarily the same as 1 Frequent flyer point of an airline. There is a conversion ratio - read the fine print.......

On my bank-issued AMEXs, I can still choose between QFF or VAV as a points destination (both 1 for 2 on plat/diamond CBA). QFF needs to be selected up-front though (which I haven't done: CBA to VA points to SQ flight for me!)

QFF decided back in 2008 or 2009 that except for a couple of high annual fee cards, you could only earn points on cards which direct sweep to QF. Sounds like some older cards may have been grandfathered, of which your association card was one.

Think of it as Qantas doing you a favour. You will now be able to transfer your points from credit card spend to other programs which you can extract much more value from than QFF points.

I believe you have to be enrolled in Ascent Premium? This is an automatic feature of Platinum and Centurion charge cards. Maybe the Platinum Edge isn't deemed to be a premium card, or maybe you just have to be Irish :-|

It hasn't affected my David Jones Amex card...points posted today...still getting converted equivalent of 1.5 points per $ spent at Woolworths on this card.... with all points directed monthly to Qantas.

You HAD to be enrolled in Ascent Business, but everyone is missing the FACT this came into effect on Monday this week, the change advice to Amex went thru last week. So in the 4 days it took to get the new Platinum Edge, things changed.

Indeed. These sorts of comments are just so immature and pathetic . They should not be tolerated on this board. Its tantamount to racism imo.

Sounds like rubbish to me as a long term holder of a platinum edge card. I'm not aware of that card ever being able to transfer to QFF, except maybe with an additional opt in fee that also cuts the earning. As has already been mentioned a couple of times the change to direct sweep happened 5 or 6 years ago. It was well advertised at the time.

Many on AFF would say they Qantas are doing you a favour by no longer offering QFF points with your Amex. ;):p:!:

Agreed, my Plat Edge has never allowed transfer to QF as far as I know and I dont miss it.

It may be worth when ranting trying to get your facts right. QF did not change this by stealth, they had a very large campaign putting their spin on this a few years back.

Also you lose the argument as soon as you mention the I word sorry.

My Plat Edge could transfer to QF when it was the free card attached to my Plat Charge (ie its points went into my Plat Charge Ascent Premium a/c which I could move to QF)

My a plat charge thing then. Perhaps the OP should look into a Platinum charge card. Having said that, I'd guess the issue is moving out of a special business arrangement that allowed transfer to QF into the same deal us plebs get.

No I agree but ONLY because the Plat Charge was the main card (and in Ascent Premium) and the Edge was a subsidiary. But not if you only has a Plat Edge and you therefore had the base Ascent program rather than the Premium. But that situation is certainly not a change.

Yes, that's the point I was making
The missus solely had a Plat Edge at the same time, no QF
