Folks just wondering if you might be able to provide some assistance please...

First Q : Any chance that a Qantas (From Melbourne) might check baggage through to an AA flight to YYZ ?
Second Q : Would Qantas be able to issue a ticket from Melbourne for the AA flight?

These are booked via two separate itineraries 1 x cash with QF and 1x award points with QF on AA metal.

When you checkin at MEL present both itineraries to QF and they will tag your bags thru to YYZ. They will probably issue your boarding pass for AA1586/QF3245 at the same time.

When you get to LAX you will need to clear immigration, collect your bags, clear customs, exit the door and turn right, head up the ramp, then left at "Connecting Flights", present your bags at the conveyor belt, exit the terminal, turn right and walk the 100m to T4.

Present your QF issued boarding to the checkin counter and receive your AA boarding pass with "Priority AAcess" printed on it.

Then up the escalator thru premium security and 50m down to the Admirals Club on the right.

Obtain G&T and relax :)

you are an absolute gentleman!!! do you think i'm running it too fine with only 2h45m connecting time? admittedly i would have liked to pop into the Admirals club for a quick shower but I'm suspecting this won't happen :(

QF gets in at 6.40am and AA leaves 9.55am

In theory that connection should be fine.

Technically, you are not protected if there is a delay and you misconnect, but in practice AA are usually pretty good and just bumping you to the next flight. Just be aware that being on two separate itineraries reduces their obligation. Also be aware that AA only runs 1 direct LAX- YYZ service per day. So you would be re-routed via DFW or ORD.

Checking in at MEL for both flights, and having your bags tagged thru helps your cause.

Always have travel insurance.
