I booked a HKG-SYD J class flight via qantas.com but it's operated by Cathay (CX 101). In hong kong, which lounge do I get access to? And also, do I get to bring a guest?

Qantas wouldn't normally 'sell' that route on CX. Was it a reward booking? You would have access to the CX lounges unless you are OneWorld Sapphire (ie Qantas Gold).

What flight number is on the booking? QF or CX? That would be the deciding factor, unless of course you're OWS or above in which case any One World J Lounge can be used.

Does not matter what status or flight number to a certain extent, J pax on oneworld marketed and operated flights can access any One World J lounge. No guest access is permitted.

Go to one of the CX lounges anyway. They are better than the QF dungeon.

Was in the QF Business Lounge in HKG recently and I still think it is a good lounge.

Looked at the food options and someone came over and asked what we wanted and offered to bring over a fruit plate and also made us sandwiches.

The lounge was quiet and was able to use (real) desktops instead of the pretend ones available in the Cabin.

And the salmon was no longer on offer in the Cabin but it was there in the Pier F Lounge restaurant though. What is the attraction with overcrowded lounges where you cannot even find a space to sit for 2 people? For me the CX business lounges in HKG do not have anything I need the Qantas Lounge does not have.

And when in SIN I would stay away from the Qantas lounge(s) and use the Skyview instead for the same reasons.

Markis, has this changed recently? There was a thread sometime last year stating that if you did not have sufficient status on a J/F ticket, you would have to use the lounge of the airline you were flying. ( http://www.australianfrequentflyer....clarification-oneword-based-lounge-34807.html )

Now it seems that the reference to that has been removed totally. ( Lounge access - oneworld )

What time were you there? I find the service levels differ greatly depending on the time.

But yes, it just occurred to me that CX101 departs at the evening peak hour, so the CX lounges are definitely going to be overcrowded. :(

One world airlines have always welcomed other alliance members J pax regardless of status. The wording changes didnt stick apparently , and I am not aware of anyone who has been refused admittance.

We there around noon or just after.

And talking about service levels I ordered a drink twice in the Pier First class lounge and after waiting ~3-4 minutes had to go back to the bar and re-order the drink. Both times.

People rave on about the service they receive in HKG CX lounges but I am yet to see it and this was at the same time as we were trying to get on an earlier flight the next day after being delayed and offered a flight the next night.

That would have been handy to know:rolleyes:

Definitely nothing like what you've experienced, when you are in lounge during the evening peak hour, unfortunately. It stops once it gets to around 4pm, and become just another normal run-of-the-mill lounge.

Does this mean that when I'm flying QF from JNB in J, I can access the BA lounge rather than the terrible one that Qantas shares?

Yes, the BA one is the only one that is not third party lounge, but note it would only allow access on the SYD flight:

that is good news! Thanks for the heads-up! I was worried I'd be stuck in the QF F lounge next time I was leaving HKG!!

I kinda agree that the J lounge in HKG is OK. At least the internet there works better than the computers in the CX J lounges!

Why would you be worried?

A business class passenger only has access to business class lounges but a Oneworld Emerald has access to any First Class lounge even if travelling economy.

I can only get access based on class of service (OWE has expired).

I have been denied access as a OWE flying out on the SYD flight - sent to the caterpillar lounge or the SAA lounge (?Baobab). It was definitely in contravention of access rules, but the QF airport manager had specifically asked the BA lounge staff not to grant access. They told me it was because he didn't want QF to be billed for the access fee.

I did not realise and was slightly confused where you referred to a post re busness class passengers and lounge access. So are you travelling business or first class?

I thought First class could use any lounge where as business class cannot use First class lounge unless Oneworld Emerald.
