Qantas extends status extensions until end June 2023 (previously December 2022)

Why did Qantas capped it at 40%? mystery to me.

So you have to fly in 2022/2023 to retain status, and not just sit back and enjoy the benefits without forking over the revenue. If people could roll over the whole amount, for a lot of their cash cows in platinum it is the equivalent of ANOTHER year of free status extension, or at least dropping to gold well into 2023/2024.
 
Now, the fact that July and above are excluded is interesting, and open to interpretation. Mine is that Qantas is planning to reintroduce status-support + status-boost when exiting this crisis, but they can't know when yet, so they didn't decide if they should extend July and above yet. My 2 cents.
QF could hardly both still plan to resume international travel late December and give 12 month status extensions for those who will have almost their entire membership year after QF publicly hopes/expects international travel to resume, so with a little help shouldn’t need a further 12 month extension.

If international travel on QF resumes much later than late December that will change, but for now QF wants international bookings from those hoping to travel.

Interesting, so you think Qantas prefers to get my revenue in my next membership year, instead of this year. Maybe their cash-flow is not that bad after all.

I would assume they're making the calculation that the few people who are flying enough under the current highly restricted regime to be racking up WP levels of SC, aren't going to be deferring travel just because they've hit their roll-over cap.

This rollover deal would mean people in this category are getting a 40% reduction in required status credits into potentially mid-2024. At this stage I imagine they're planning for a return to relatively frequent travel by late 2022, and probably normal levels by 2023.

No, you need to make a booking. If QF cancels, it still qualifies. I am considering making a booking to SYD on a flight that will get cancelled by QF, which I convert into a credit. Perhaps a DSC travel pass.🙂 Still qualifies, but future options are more varied.

Provided the member has secured status for their new membership year (beginning between January to June 2022, through the one flight offer, for example), the status credits so far earned don't roll over; only status credits earned in the new membership year beginning in 2022 rollover, to the next membership year.

Example: Platinum member with May 2022 expiry. Currently 400 SCs, all from flying, including one of the one-flight-get-status-extended offer (taken in June 2021). Therefore, the membership had already been extended to May 2023 anyway. Under the status credit rollover announced earlier in the year, this member was entitled to rollover the 400 SCs to kickstart their new membership year, beginning in May 2022. However, with the announcement this week, that member needs just one flight to extend status through to May 2024 and the 400 SCs earned this year that will rollover into the year beginning June 2023 now wont rollover.

I'm confused. Have I got that right?

I think you’re 12 months ahead of yourself in that example.

The previous extension would have extended Mr/Ms May to May 2022.

If taken up, the offer announced yesterday would extend them to May 2023.

To answer your initial question, the remaining incentives as I see them are:
- Getting to fly. :)
- SC up to the rollover threshold.
- Accrual towards lifetime status

yes, you've confused it just a bit.

May 2022 expiry date:
you book between say now and May 2022 - you get an extension to May 2023. The SC rollover applies to your 2023-2024 membership year. The extension of status earned by the promotion does not apply to that year.

Thus the incentive for the status chasers is effectively a discount (in this case 400SC) on the requalification amount for Plat to retain till May 2024. That's assuming no further promotions or boost which of course is an unknown right now. Also addition to LTSC.

I’m still feasting 9 months later on the previous refunds topped off by the mortgage done!

LapTop Jockey was replying to a previous post and I think basically saying that QF are rolling over only 40% of SC so that we will have to pay and fly in 2022/23 to renew status again.

Whilst it is a good offer from Qantas I wonder how it will work i.e. as an example say I book a flight for early December and a week prior to the flight there is another lockdown, will there be rebooking fees etc?
As I have been grounded, like the rest of you on this forum, I have not been keeping clued up on what has been happening with Brookings per say.
Yes, I have given up on making any travel plans for the rest of this year.

On a different subject, I have had both vaccinations, so I wonder if the government will let me travel?
As I live south of Sydney I wonder how many check points will be set up to travel to the airport, with armed police and defence personnel on the boomgates?

Mine is a definite extension offer. I had already been extended from the previous offer. So now WP until April 2023 assuming I fly. Thinking local SA just to be sure. Sigh.

Part of me thinks now that when I had the opportunity to use points to extend Platinum not that long before the pandemic that could've been a good idea. Instead I am SG. Though not even having LTS I do need to earn WP the hard way at some point to progress towards LTG.

I am not sure how this question relates to the status extension promotion since, as with the last one, all they ask is a flight be *booked*

regardless, QF have constantly extended the change fee free periods for bookings in line with the situation going on. Thus, as per the current situation I would not worry about any rebooking fees. Also remember if QF cancel a flight in the booking one can get a full refund or travel pass to cover the cost - and that won't affect the status extension promotion.

I don't quite know how to take this - except that it's way outside the scope of this thread and a totally different conversation imo. I'm not sure if you're being deliberately dark or dystopian or what....

but I'll bite.

1. For domestic travel it is probably very unlikely vaccination status will be an factor. National Cabinet have already indicated the goal is for national vax rates to get to that 70-80% point before lockdowns etc hopefully become a thing of the past (I am somewhat cynical on this goalpost not changing but let's go with the current words from the pollies). Further, there are no departure checks on domestic and doubt they will be attempted to be brought in given the timelines involved - this has been a source of some angst for people regarding things like people traveling interstate without valid permits etc. Our transport, specially current air travel system for domestic, is not set up for this. So no, I do not think there will be checkpoints and so on to the airport for travel. The onus is on arrival checks for each state since they continue to have their own requirements.

2. You're really discussing Vaccination Passports and these, if/when they come in for travel outin of Australia will be an International. And this is obviously still some time off - even with the announcement from New Zealand indicating they will probably only admit vaccinated passengers which will require checks etc. International is a whole other situation and obviously there are much stricter checks.

Anyway this stuff is WAY out of the scope of this thread so I'm sure there are more appropriate threads/forums to discuss these more general questions.
