I am taking a red eye flight from PER-SYD tonight in economy on Qantas. Unfortunately I forgot to apply for the upgrade. My friend has WP or SG hence she will guest me into the lounge. Could I possibly get upgraded at the QC? Or is this not possible since I am only PS?

Thanks in advance!

If you have entered the lounge, you are entitled to use your points for an upgrade, no matter what your status AFAIK.

I don't think that's possible ODU's are for WP/SG/QP only. You can ask at the desk anyway, as your friend is SG you might get lucky

If you can access the lounge then you can ODU (upgrade) subject to normal conditions (availability etc.). Being silver should not be an issue AFAIK.

I have upgraded many times while in the QP as a guest, using silver invites or even in as an AA plat.

Only Once I was asked how I was in the lounge and I told them I used the free invite. The upgrade was processed without further question.

Thanks all. I will ensure I get there T-3.5 hours. Is there any limit as to how early you can get into the lounge before your flight? I used to have virgin lounge access when I flew their J product and they wouldn't let me in more than 2 hours before sometimes.

Could the WP request the upgrade for you if you can not do it yourselves and as you are related (you do work with your cousin don't you?) you could then do a family transfer of the points.

You can use the lounge, no real time frame, just day of departure. You can also check-in on the kiosks at -6hrs prior to departure.

I would just do OLCI and then turn up when your colleague wants to turn up.

If I am checked in to economy, can I still request an upgrade at the lounge though? My colleague will be in the lounge for 5 hours but I have to duck back to home 1 before I fly out to home 2 so I will be there about 3.5 hours before.

Yes. You hand over your economy boarding pass when you request the upgrade. I would recommend using online checkin (or advance seat selection) to get a good economy seat just in case.

Thanks, I've requested a semi average seat (flight is pretty full and im only PS).

Unfortunately plane was full and I got stuck with an aisle seat in economy. Not the best outcome. Will plan ahead better next time.

It actually wasn't bad. I was just praying I wasn't next to a burly big mining type, which I wasn't.

Could have been much worse -- said burly miner could have been at end of long shift!
