Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone knows what time Check-in opens in SFO for the new QF74?

I have had 'mixed results' shall we say in LAX with anything from 2pm through 4.30pm sometimes - and do not fancy sitting around for hours again if I have to get an earlier connecting flight in.

Thanks!

The Qantas web site indicates that check-in is open from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. Passengers must check-in at least 3 hours before departure.

I was at SFO after the inaug QF73. The QF74 check-in (aisle 5) opens 19:45 according to the signage at SFO. The desks are used by LX (Swiss) earlier in the day.

Thanks for the info guys, it is always a balance with connecting flights and getting there nicely before but not too soon - especially with nearly every US domestic flight running late, or is that just me!

Where's your incarriage flight from and what airline?

If it's AA they will through check your bag to SYD on QF74 and issue the QF boarding pass so you won't have to even checkin at SFO.

No, because the QF contract staff aren't there until the advertised opening time.

I was somewhere recently, was it Singapore (?) where QF WP could checkin all day at a special outsourced facility down the back of the departures hall. Was wondering if they had established a similar arrangement.

Edit: it was Singapore. The SATS Premier checkin facility.

or in HK you can check in any time on the day in the city and not have to carry your luggages as you enjoy the day before the night flight...

Yes but things like the HK central check in and SIN are either run by the airport or don't forget that QF has much bigger operations spreading throughout the day and both ports while SFO is a single flight a day operation.

Agree connecting flights will issue BP's and no need to get to QF check in, unless flying in on WN or some other LCC type carrier... then allow plenty of time given SFO is the Airport of the Devil due to fog and stuff for delays.

Anyone can check in early from 1000 to 1400 at Row 4 and 1400 to 1700 at Row 5, though check-in at SIN already opens earlier than most at 6 hours before departure. The SATS Premier Check-in at the end of row 4 is for First, Business, and oneworld Emerald passengers.

I do hope QF have chosen a different contractor, as previously (the old SFO flights) the check-in experience was woeful with major stuff ups of seating allocation and a generally poor customer experience. Let's hope they have learned from their mistakes.
