Qantas Booked Business with Points - get economy flights - can it be changed

Hi everyone.
I have booked business for our family to return SIN to ADL with stop over in SYD.
SIN to SYD is business as we requested but SYD to ADL is economy. There are 3 seats available in Business that I have found on the same economy flight we are coming home on. Can I get Qantas to release another seat. Not happy we paid full points for Business all the way and getting economy option.
Love if I change to the business option for 3 of us that I am asked to pay in more points for the change - sigh...

Hi allie - long time between posts.

This is a common complaint about QF that they 'sell' mixed class award redemptions. You can contact QF to request this if you have status but I don't like your chances - you agreed to the fare you paif for with points.

You are lucky that the flight from SIN is in Business, normally it's the other way around.
You can call but at the end of the day you did accept the Y sector in the first place.

Thanks smith0847. Been watching and learning between posts... Had no option but to agree, they didn't offer anything else on ANY flight for that day for the days around it !!! Did contact them and got a rude FF person tell me there was a flight with Business seats for domestic available that day - mind you it was 12 hours after we landed in Sydney from Singapore.. 2 normally well behaved kids after a 12 hour stopover would be a disaster - I think not to that option. Tried to fob me off by saying that only 4 business seats are offered on the larger planes. Had to laugh when i pointed out that both planes were 737's, so no difference. He got annoyed with me right about then. Which I thought was unprofessional. There are 3 seats business seats on our current plane available, not like one more on a middle of the day flight is going to break their bank. Thanks anyway - might try again and hopefully get a much more professional person on the phone.. cheers

Yes I know - but online you don't get options or advised how many seats are available. Just this is it... Will live, but would be nice to get point reduction if you get service reduction !!

If there are not enough reward seats it's unlikely to change, empty seats in business often stay that way. In future if you want j then book it, it's not unheard of the be moved to an earlier flight at your request in that scenario.

This is where you have to play around a little (I.e two separate awards etc)

Thanks mannej - yes I did play around a bit. Which is how i found out about the 3 available, but wanted to keep the family together and on the same plane. Not sure what happens luggage wise, hope we don't get pinged for excess baggage on the economy flight as we have to collect out baggage at SYD. should be interesting. All good, was just hoping we might be able to get business all the way..

You can search for award seats by doing a flight stats availability search on the day you want to fly, it will list all the flights fare buckets with business award being indicated by a U and then the number of seats available.
