Ok, I have searched... truly. Even read the t&c on the QF website.

But I am still confused.

Have been QF FF since 1997, but currently have no SC. My expiry/anniversary date is end of March 2016.

If I achieve Silver in the next couple of months, and assu'ing the four flights in a year met, does my Silver last until:

a, March 2016
b, March 2017
c, 12 months from achieving Silver
d, sometime else I hadn't considered!

Thanks - it really is not clear to me, as you probably have gathered!

When you earn a new status level you have it until the end of the membership year you earn it in, as well as the whole of the following year.

thanks - I was hoping that was the case. Anyone have any thoughts on BNE-AKL-BNE on EK metal (QF FLT No) in J/C as a good SC run? Is about $1800 for 160 SC , and avoiding the whole JetConnect experience.

You can actually get First class for about that price at times by instead booking AKL-BNE-AKL on the Qantas NZ website. That earns 240 SC (120 each way) as long as its booked under a QF flight number. See this thread: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....onal-airfares/qf-ek-trans-tasman-f-69435.html

Otherwise, a couple of comments on Qantas and Emirates J across the ditch... Qantas on the 737s isn't a great hard product, but the food and service are both excellent. Emirates has a great hard product but service can be somewhat impersonal and food hit and miss.

Having said all that, I still wouldn't personally spend over $1,000 to achieve Silver status. You can purchase a Qantas Club membership for less than that and that comes with many of the same benefits.

Nice Tip on the F booking. Thanks.

Just to get Silver: Well with a view to greater things. I have to do 1/2 a dozen AUS-EUR returns over the next 36 months, and want to make the latter ones more comfortable.

Perhaps you should research how the membership tiers work. Simply having silver status does not make it "easier" to then move up to gold. Gold requires 700 SCs to attain for the first time whether you are silver or bronze.

$1800 r/t for J is ridiculous. they have sales every so often at around the $600-$700 oneway level. Shouldn't pay more than $1350-$1400 RT in J from BNE. As others have said, ex-AKL is great. A sale just finished(sadly) with F at NZD $900 one way AKL-BNE (they had return fares too) so much better to do it that way as suggested.

these sales pop up on a fairly regular basis.

Also agree that all this for Silver is not worth it unless you have other trips planned. It may even be worthwhile holding over till your next anniversary in March so you can start off a new membership year and do more than one trip. Doing one before your year ends wouldn't be that useful in terms of greater than silver status IMHO.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Some more research after reading comments above, I agree there are much better deals out there.

Already a QC member, so happy to receive those benefits when travelling to EUR (lounges, check in etc).

Was more interested in allowing the SC to help me with obtaining bonus points and build sufficient to have a shot at premium reward seats, and success in u/g when flying on QF metal.

Best S/C boost (SC/$) seems to be a status run around the US still when there.

After some research though, have to wonder if it is all cost effective.
