Pre-selected seat on QF127 has vanished in PE

Hi all

I am going to Hong Kong on January 7 on QF127, booked in Premium Economy.
I had pre-selected a seat when the booking was made.
Just went in and looked at the booking and I got an error saying that seat selection is not available on this flight and that I could only pick window or aisle as a preference.
Seems very odd. Does anyone know why this would have happened? Could the flight be oversold?
I am just a NB and it is a business trip so I think its on a discounted corporate fare. Not sure if that would make a difference though?

I would suggest calling QF and getting them to put a selection in unless you wish to play seat roulette!

Manual seat selection is disabled once a certain percentage of seats have been requested in order to give ground staff a little flexibility with seating large families/groups together, who may have booked on different PNRs etc (though this shouldn't affect existing selections)... The only other potential reasons that come to mind would be:

• The flight is oversold in the cabin that you booked, and QF decided not to maintain the seat selection of some/all pax in case they are no-shows etc
• There has been an equipment change on your flight (unlikely as it's already a 744 though)
• QF made a date error when adding the A380 onto this flight number, by accidentally adding it too early (therefore resetting seat selections), and then changing it back to a B744 (A380 on QF127 commences 8 days after your flight)
• A CL member may have requested your specific seat(s) - if approved, and also if the percentage of manually selected seats is above the cutoff threshold, you will not be able to select a replacement

You could always give QF a call to find out what exactly happened and if your preferences can be restored!

Has the selected seat disappeared from the booking details? I'm getting exactly the same error if I try to use seat selection for QF1 and 2 in May, no seat map aisle or window preference. But my selected seats are still listed under manage my booking. Is this is same for you?

I rang Qantas last night and the guy in the call centre said he couldn't load the seat map either. He said that there is still one seat for sale in the PE cabin, so the cabin hasn't been oversold. He said it could be due to an aircraft re-configuration (but I also doubt that as it is a 747 on that flight already).

The Qantas rep said to try again in a few days, and he apologised that he couldn't help any further.

So the CL member requesting my seat sounds more likely to be the reason. Will be interesting to see what happens when I get to the airport I guess. Fingers cross that I won't get bumped down into Y.

The second 747 reconfig with F being removed came online yesterday, perhaps its operating a trip to HKG?

It sounds like everyone on the flight may have the same problem. Besides rechecking seat selection, perhaps OLCI will be the earliest chance to grab a seat.

Thanks. I'm a bit frustrated by this in my case, but at least my seats are still selected. Just annoying to have to ring qantas if I want to change.

just because there is a seat available for sale doesn't mean the cabin is NOT oversold!!

an airline will frequently continue to sell seats, either because they know a percentage will no show, or, at the end of the day, if you have someone willing to buy a full fare PE ticket they can either upgrade, or bump a lower paying passenger off and pocket the money.

I had this exact same thing happen when trying to change flights in the USA... the gate agent said the flight was full (and it was too) but the website was still selling full Y fares. the cost of and bump compensation was far outweighed by the full Y price.

Well MP I did indeed get my PE seat as originally selected, hurrah for that.
Just about to board QF128 for the return flight on the A380, will be my first time on a QF 380 so should be interesting.

Oh and by the way, CX catering on HKG-MNL and return was just horrendous in whY......

I am just glad that mrs Mpsydney and I got Op upped when we did the MNL HKG leg last.
