Hi,

I'm a newbie, trying to track ways to get from Sydney to New York using Star Alliance (US airway points).

Can anyone suggest a route to get there first class and back?

THANKS!

Try United via SFO/LAX or Singapore via SIN and FRA.

If you have the points I'd go for SQ over UA, even if it is longer!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

UA Airways miles will lilkely become AA miles some time in the future.
So QF in first will be option, if you get an award seat

Thanks Mwenenzi :D

I am reading around to see what will likely happen with the merger. I understand that the points are not 1:1 - US:AA?

Does anyone know whether using AA points to book flights on OW partners is more difficult than it is on US Air?

I suppose there is a risk of holding the points that I have with US ... decisions decisions

Slip of the finger we hope (UA rather than US), would like some competition in the US market!

On the OP's question, when we used US points we did SYD - NYC via Seoul (ICN), Asiana to Seoul and UA to NYC (vis SFO). We then came back with AC via Vancouver. Had a layover in both Seould and Vancouver and can recommend either, UA was the only (slight) disappointment, Asiana and Air Canada we great.
