Hi

We have a 3.5 hour layover in Port Villa -was after recommendations of a place for lunch and a swim so we don't have to sit around in the airport.

Thanks

Would be nice if you could get to Hideaway Island, it's not that far from the airport really. I mean we are talking a 10 minute drive. There is a large tinnie that shuttles back and forth from Hideaway continually and it's only a 5 minute trip. Pay the fee and grab a snorkel on arrival and reef and clownfish are right off the shore. Alternatively if you don't want to risk the tinnie timetable, just have a swim right in front of The Beach Bar on the mainland side and then lunch there.

Another (non-ocean) option is a walk up to Mele Cascades waterfall. Also very close by.

I dont think 3.5hrs is enough time for Mele Cascades/up to the waterfall.

To be honest, for a transit pool dip and shower, Moorings is a suggestion. On the main drag of port villa, has a bar ect. Its not a place I would stay long term but for an overnight (which Ive done), it did the job.

If you do Hideawy Island (got married there), they have an underwater post box that you can mail special postcards at.

Nice place for nuptials, well done! Yes the underwater PO is a bit of fun. My sister-in-law has lived off-and-on in Vila for years. They used to have a place just in Devils Pt Rd actually, so very close to Hideaway. We've had a lot of good times there.

Got a bit caught out by this recently but that bar is cash only.

Otherwise Hideaway takes card.

How does one end up with a 3.5hr layover in Port Vila?

Hideaway is great, but probably not enough time. Maybe just head to one of the resorts for a quick swim/drink/snack & keep a close eye on the time. VLI is a bit like Fiji time. Taxi might not be there, when you need it. Plan ahead.
