hi all

I read on Qantas site stated "Points Plus Pay" airfares earns status credit and points. Is the earn rates per normal i.e. discount economy, economy...etc?

As I don't have the minimum 5,000 QF points in my account yet, can someone please tell me roughly how much you would get says for 5,000 QF points off an airfare? (only looking for travel across Trans Tasman). cheers :)

you earn at the rate at which the airfare you bought earns, so if you buy discount economy it earns as discount economy. It's a bit less than 1c discount per point, not very good value

Yes, points plus pay bookings earn Points and SCs as if booking was paid for in cash.
In general the redemption rates are p*ss poor, especially on international and premium cabin redemptions.

I'd guess about $0.007 per point.

IMO best value achieved on multi city international [-]red e deal[/-] sale bookings.

But *can* be cheaper than an International Classic Y redemption (since these attract cash taxes anyway) if the fare purchased is a Sale fare. It pays to check both ways.

Correct. eg sin -mel one way.

Try adding some domestic legs onto that sin-mel. For example ADL-HKG-SYD-ADL on a sale, then check points plus pay vs classic award.. 3 segments seems to be the optimum

I wonder how SIN-MEL-BNE-MEL would work. Really kicking myself for not check SIN-SYD-ADL-SYD for points plus pay.

Poor usage of points, but one good thing about P+P is that you can build up your SC count towards next year's status, attain or retain.
I am QF SG now, and will fall back to NB in Oct 16.
But if I use my stash of 33,000 for P+P also across the "ditch", I get to get back to QF PS. $2199 approx ADL - SYD - AKL in J (return) give or take, less the value of 33,000 points, about a $200 reduction, will earn me 240 QF SC.
If I used my 33,000 for a 18,000 one way reward SYD - AKL, I don't earn any extra.
If I used the other 15,000 for a P+P, I will get some points.

The value is there to be found and can be an excellent use of points. Agreed it would be poor to do business points plus pay. It would also be poor to consider points plus pay as the only option to a status level.

Excellent suggestion.

I didn't even think about points + pay as a way to use up my QFF points and earn SCs at the same time.

Really, I thought I told everyone at the HKG lounge run about the value to be achieved.

Is points plus pay supposed to be available on all flights?

I'm looking at a two sector domestic itinerary. Booking it as Adelaide to Sydney via Melbourne is more than $200 more expensive than a multi-city Adelaide-Melbourne-Sydney. The former offers points plus pay; the latter does not.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
