Can someone please advise what the baggage limits are regarding checked baggage weight for domestic flights. Is it 32kgs or 23kg per bag? The Velocity site says to refer to status level limits, but when I click on platinum benefits, the page flicks so quickly to the below, I can't read any additional benefits, if any, for plat members.

I'd much rather lug one bag at 32kgs, than 2 at 23kgs each or less.

  • Each piece of baggage must not weigh more than 32kg, or exceed a total linear dimension (length + width + height) of 140cm, per piece. Baggage that exceeds these limits must be transported as Freight. Guests should contact Freight Services on 13 15 06 before arriving at the airport.
  • Checked baggage that exceeds a weight limit of 23kg (where applicable) will attract overweight baggage fees and will only be accepted and loaded onboard at our discretion.

My interpretation is that the default 'unit' is 23kgs (50lbs). As a WP you are entitled to between 2-3 units depending on fare. This means that you have an allowance of 46-69kgs, which you can divvy up as you like, provided that no individual piece is greater than 32kgs. Anything over 23kgs will be marked as 'Heavy' or 'Overweight', but as long as your total still falls within the allowance it should be fine - note the 'where applicable'.

It's here as well - Checked baggage allowance | Virgin Australia

generally this is how I have had it applied, except once in AKL (operated by NZ) where the person on the oversize baggage decided that 23kg was a hard limit per piece and anything over would cost extra - no matter how many pieces I was allowed. (Went back to premium checkin and they happily jammed it down their conveyor)
