A three day trip to watch the Socceroos and try some new eating spots in Melbourne. My aim is get pics of a couple of serious meals. We shall see.

Sitting at Gate 48 awaiting my VA flight. Flight looks like it will be fullish.

$10 for a muffin and Orange juice. Definitely not pic worthy.

Why do people who aren't in rows 30-42 insist on 5rying to board the plane when they haven't been called? I know most of you don't have this problem, but for we mere economy class organ banks it's an issue.

Flight was routine. Some minor bumps. Watched the latest Star Trek film. It was pretty meh.

Food was garbage. Some rubbish beef and rice "dish" in a cardboard box.

But at least I have a beer now.

The question is what to eat tonight. A German feast, or a crazy parma?

I think a lot of people want to make sure they can fit their excessive hand luggage in the overhead lockers.
Also for some reason I have never understood, some people like to board early to "settle in".
I'm the reverse - I prefer to be the last to board (but preferably without being paged).

Went with German.IMAG2855.jpg

Hofbrauhaus on Market Lane. Nothing really stood out so went with the kassler (smoked pork loin) on sauerkraut and mash, with a side of buttered spatzl. Washed down with a crisp Arcobrau.

Was pretty good too. But not big enough really. Bloke across the room ordered the pork knuckle and I have to say I had some food envy.

Tuesday breakfast plans were dismissed in favour of watching a lot of baseball. But we made it to Mrs Parmas for a late lunch. And what a lunch. I had the Mexican. Superb.IMAG2859.jpg

My dining companions went with the MacnCheese, the pork sausage and blue cheese, and the original. They were all very happy.

The rest of the evening was something of a blur, on account of all the alcohol I had told myself I wasn't going to drink.
I do know I ended up here:

So that part of the plan went well. The game itself was a bit dull as you may have heard.
After the final whistle we adjourned to the Savoy for more refreshments, before I wisely decided to call an end to my night.
Walked back to the apartment via Crown, and indulged myself with some Ten Miles takeaway from the food court. I think it's quite ok.IMAG2869.jpg

Guzled down some water and was in bed just after midnight. And didn't hate myself too much this morning!

Yes Quickstatus I have been there a couple of times. The Langham feels a bit more up market and I felt the Crown buffet had a bit of the old Coles Cafeteria style from the seventies. Maybe it was just too crowded when we went there.
We are about to do a similar run to Sydney so instead of the Langham it will be the Intercontinental buffet and my 25% off card runs out at the end of October and they are not renewing them. Have not travelled with a 24 year old son for quite a while and now we have 2 trips together in a couple of months.

Your liver won't know what hit it.

Better finish this one up with Wednesday's dining experience.
And what an experience!

I'd been foiled on my last trip to Melbourne, but nothing was going to stop me from getting to the Langham buffet this time.
A lunch booking for two, and a short walk during a break in the rain, and we were ready to gorge.

Started slowly,

But by the end I had been through the cold cuts, dumplings, roast meats and vegies, the Indian selections, the made on the spot pasta, the duck pancakes, and some of the choicer salads.
I did not opt for the steak (not in the mood), the noodles (ditto), the sushi (I'm impatient) or the seafood (too finicky for my taste).

I did however - to paraphrase a certain disgraced former AFL star - launch into and annihilate as much of the desert options as possible.

Those Lindt ganache tarts were incredible, and everything else wasn't too shabby either.

Also didn't bother with booze for this meal. The water was well received.

Money well spent and I'll be taking MrsGM on her next Melbourne trip for sure.

Well GarrettM this is a Melbourne favourite for our family.
Yes do take Mrs GM to this one.
