Perth - San Francisco return from LA, what to book?

Hi, new here. Would appreciate some guidance to book flights from Perth to San Francisco on the 29th of September 13, returning 1st Nov 13. Wife and I travelling and would like to upgrade to J. Currently have 200k points, wife, 150k. I have FF Platinum, wife bronze. What ate the option? Will flying VIA Dubai be an option now.

If cost is not a concern then CX J class is my first choice. Much better service and new J product fantastic. You can use HKG first lounge of CX which is great.
Upgrading by points on QF on PER to US routes are v difficult nowadays let alone for two. On a lucky day you may get the domestic leg upgraded.

You won't be able to upgrade flying via DXB, as you will be on EK metal the whole way.

Use the points to fly J roundtrip to TPE and then purchase open jaw Biz tickets on CX.

Alternate: use points to fly to PNH and then MH in J to the states

Can you clarify "would like to upgrade to J". Do you mean you'd like to buy Y and use points to upgrade, or 'upgrade the whole experience' and go for J award seats?

I was hoping to buy Y and use points to upgrade. Not too concerned about the domestic leg but the haul from east coast to the US in J would be great. Not sure what level of Y ticket we would have to buy? Last time I did this about 4 years ago I was Bronze and qantas rang and offered 1 way for 75,000 points. Thanks!

Availability from SEAsia from/to the USA is usually a great deal better than from Australia.
