G’Day all.

Having booked my fair share of premium rewards, I’m looking at paying for 2 J seats for my parents from Melbourne to Larnaca, Cyprus. Having never paid before, are there any tips for where to credit points earn (QR ‘R’ to Qantas seams to earn something) or for avoiding the credit card surcharge? Will QR charge for seat selection for J?

None of us have status with any airline but do make use of Qantas and Krisflyer.

Thanks for any input.

You can credit to Qantas Frequent Flyer. If the passengers are NB ('nobody bronze' status :) ), they should earn 9,200 points and 130 Status credits each, one way.

Not sure about cc fees.nor QR seat selection fees, sorry.

1) BA You'd earn 11,181 BA Avios oneway for that trip (+200 Tier Points but only relevant if you intend to fly 2+ BA flights that year). I value Avios higher than QF points and they are useful in small quantities so would choose BA

2) CX I think you would earn a similar number of Asia Miles-these are harder to use in small quantities so would need to be able to top up (eg with a credit card)

3) AA ~8948 AA miles each way. Hard to top up except by flying

4) QR not sure but I understand they are difficult to use in small quantities and are prone to devaluations without warning

Thanks Rooflyer and andye for your help. I couldn’t get the QR calculator to show past Doha, so thanks for the screenshot.

Looks like the best point & status earn rate is with Emirates on a QF flight number, but the connections and cost aren’t the best. Will probably stick with QR.

Thanks again.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Reread my post and realised could be confusing
The points earn was for flying QR J in R class and crediting to the mentioned programmes

Thanks for the clarification. Do you mean 11,181 avoids each person, each way? Ie over 44k avios all up? That looks like a pretty good deal when redeeming for QF seats!
