Hi folks,

Has anyone tried out partner benefits (in my case, as velocity gold) on SQ since the tie-up? The web site:

Gold Membership | Velocity Frequent Flyer

says it should include priority checkin, baggage, and boarding (as well as lounge access where applicable) - does it work in practice? Does SQ normally run a separate 'priority' check in line for high status folks, or use the business line, for instance?

I've got a BNE-LHR on SQ in Y coming up, so any hint of reducing the pain is welcomed!

Cheers,

Danny

SQ does not practice priority boarding on all its flights for KrisGold. Now this benefit is selective. Not sure why.

Priority check in and baggage yes for SQ if it is SQ all the way through. SQ has never failed me on this in the last 5 years. All Star alliance partners do that as well.

Lounge access not sure but no harm trying both at the Kris Lounge and Air New Zealand lounge at BNE international.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

A friend and I flew SQ Y a few weeks ago from BNE without issue.

Used business class check-in, SilverKris Lounge and Priority boarding, I just presented my velocity card one each occasion and my friend was a non-FF.

When boarding was announced, they called for Kris Gold, Star Alliance Gold etc but not Velocity, however I boarded with them no problems.

Baggage was also tagged priority.

Hope it helps..

Many thanks folks, sounds like it works quite well. I'll report back afterwards - particularly interested to see how it goes at LHR!

+1 ex ADL to SIN and back. Used SQ lounge in ADL and SIN.

I even accidentally talked my way into the SQ lounge in HAN (because I thought I should have access and friendly but persistently insisted until they gave in  - only realised later that they were right.... it's not SQ owned/operated. Interesting experience, food mediocre at best and the rat that ran back and forth 4 foot away from me scared the hell out of a lady sitting a bit further away. I must still be used to it because I didn't blink )

So, just to update my own thread, I just did BNE-SIN-LHR, and can confirm it worked as advertised. No signs or announcements for VA status pax anywhere, so make sure you know what you can do and jump into the appropriate lines. Amusingly, the guy checking the priority boarding line in SIN called my Velocity gold card a *A gold, so it seems like you could try it with any card that's physically coloured gold!

I can also confirm that SQ makes for a damn nice way to get to London in Y, if you can get reasonable seats. Bit of a shame about the lack of showers in the gold lounge at Changi, but it's not the end of the world when the ambassador transit lounge gives you a (nice) shower for $8SGD.

Cheers,

Danny

Oh, and one more observation - my BNE-SIN leg has already posted points and status credits, the day after the flight (not SIN-LHR yet though). So it seems processing is fairly speedy...

Cheers,

Danny
