There's a thread on Secure Sentinel, but it got a bit derailed and there's some other threads with good info on HHons (http://www.australianfrequentflyer....hhonors-gold-diamond-velocity-gold-32478.html) etc. but after a bit of reading I've found the situation to still be a bit confusing so I thought it might be useful to have a single thread with the lowdown on the best way to maximize value from the partner benefits for newly minted Golds/Plats.

So far the nuggets I've gleaned (please correct anything I've got wrong)

  • HHons > IHG (more benefits especially at Gold, more likely to get upgrades)
  • Europcar > Hertz (again not many benefits at Hertz, Europcar gives discounts on international rentals and often gives upgrades when a standard is booked)
  • Secure Sentinel isn't terribly useful but it's free so what the hell
  • If you register for HHons after April 1st you get a much longer membership period (?)
  • When you move from Gold to Plat or Plat to Gold you get another chance to register but not if you just maintain
