I bought a TZ70 in LHR in September 16 and found it fabulous for the first few thousand pics. Then before the trip was over the screen started blacking out for no apparent reason. There was also an issue with focussing when zooming in. I sent the camera back to Panasonic for repair when we returned home. The zooming issue was corrected, however the blacking out is still happening.

Also, I then found that when I took a bunch of photos at a private function where there was reasonably low light, that most of the photos has a shadow in the bottom right hand corner.

I sent the camera back to Panasonic with a sheet of the all the photos taken, showing most, BUT NOT ALL, photos have a shadow. Their explanation was that the shadow was cast from the zoom lens. The problem with their explanation I didn't use the zoom on most of the photos. Even if I had, does this sound reasonable?

Panasonic are now saying that if they don't find a problem with the camera they will charge me for looking at it. Can anyone throw any light on my problem? Thanks.

Does the same effect occur when not using the flash?

It looks like there's something obstructing the flash...perhaps a finger? The zoom obstructing it doesn't make sense as the flash is on the RHS of the lens - the dark area should be bottom left if it were that.

My screen goes black if something touches the screen as it switches to the eye viewer.
Re the blur and flash - does this happen outside as well?

It seems that at least some other people are having problems with this model as well - see review 8 for a similar complaint (bottom one) https://www.productreview.com.au/p/panasonic-lumix-tz70.html

Also someone had this suggestion - about an older TZ model and in a particular mode but it might be relevant The question was -

" Why I have come to this site is because I am having a shadow problem with my camera in the flash mode. I googled my problem - which is quite pronounced and upsetting!!!!!
In the flash mode there is shawdows on the lower left side. I have never seen this before with any of my old point and shoot cameras.
I can see that the closer my subject the shawdows are darker and larger. However I have also taken some other photos a bit further away and still there is a shadow. On these further away photos I did not notice this problem until I went to check all photos that I have taken so far."

And the answer was -

"Essentially, it happens when you're taking a macro shot, and have zoom at less than x2. So, at that close a range, the lens is casting a shadow from the flash. It does not happen any other time - only on very close-up macro - unless you have had a different experience? There's a number of workarounds - one being to move back a bit and increase zoom to around x2 or more. Or don't use flash!"

I was thinking about upgrading my TZ40 - which has had a hard life - to a new TZ so I am now a bit worried.

I remember we discussed cameras OZDUCK in the QM2 TR. I still love mine.. I don't tend to use flash though - rarely need if.

My TZ40 seems as though it has had enough of being bounced on pavements and is sulking on occasions.
