I'll be flying BNE-NRT in July, travelling with my mum. I'm flying on QF61 which departs at 10:45, but obviously we need to be there in time to check in, go through security, etc. I'd have at least an hour's drive to the airport. And to allow time for traffic delays, I'd need to be looking at leaving home at an almost silly time.

I've decided to stay in that part of the world, the night before. Other than the Novotel, all other hotels and motels in that part of the world are actually on the western side of the Gateway Motorway. Does anyone have suggestions, in terms of distance from the airport. I'm not familiar with travelling through that part of Brisbane, at that time of day.

The airport's only 15 minutes from the city via the tunnel, so you could stay at any of the city hotels, leave at 7:30 or 8am and have plenty of time.

The motels at Hamilton are only 5 minutes or so from airport. Probably 6-7kms from International airport via Gateway motorway.

IMHO the Novotel is too expensive, the Hamilton ones are expensive for what they are, so I definitiely recommend the city - you can get great deals using hotwire or similar for the booking and due to the tunnels it is VERY quick to get to the airport.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

How were you getting from your place to the hotel - are you planning to leave your car at the airport parking lot?

The Domain Serviced Apartments at 110 Racecourse Road Ascot are in the middle of a boutique suburbs with plenty of cafes and restaurants within easy walking distance for dinner.

The Quest Apartments are a little further away in Lancaster Road about 4 blocks from Racecourse Road so still walkable if need be or just park in Racecourse Road if taking the car to dinner.

I wouldn't leave any later than 0800 from Ascot to the Airport which should give you enough breathing space to park the car, checkin and head through security and customs. You can complete your green cards via the BAC app Brisbane Airport Corporation - Mobile Phone App so you can just scan the QR code on your phone at the BAC kiosk on level 4 near the escalators that take you down to the departure level. There's another kiosk on level 3 when you get off the escalators too.

The Novotel is indeed charging a premium for its proximity to the Airport. It does however save a lot of hassle and traffic concerns. The shuttle leaves every 30 mins and is only $5/person. Depends on your budget but for an easy start to Int trips I always stay there. I note they are supposed to be building both a Pullman and an ibis in this precinct. When that comes about I will definitely be moving across to the ibis. Cheers CM. Note # if you are an Accor member of course you will get some benefits.

The TBus has been complimentary for a few months now between domestic and international terminals and vv.

It was always free between DFO (Novotel) and domestic or international terminals unless you are talking about a shuttle service that the Novotel themselves operate.

If that's the case given the high price of their room rates it should be a free service.

I'll probably rent a car. I'll be away for a while. Long term car parking would be very expensive unless there's been a major change since last year. The only other option from my place is a taxi as there's no public transport, and that's quoted at between $120 and $160 each way.

Meriton serviced apartments can offer good fares. There are two towers to select from in BNE CBD and were usually my choice of accom when other hotels were too expensive.

As per Boomy above, if it fits your requirements I can highly recommend the Herschel St Meriton-we were using the Airtrain system & thought it was very convenient
