ORC on cancelled flight

Hi all,

Planned a status run MEL > SYD > OOL today. QF428 from MEL at 11am cancelled this morning meaning I wouldn't make my SYD > OOL connection in time. I won't make it to the airport in time for an earlier 11am flight.

I have asked for a refund due to their cancellation plus ORC (plus DSC promo). Is that reasonable?

I am not sure ORC is applicable here, but no harm in asking considering the timing of the cancellation.

I'd be a bit miffed but suspect I would find a way to get an earlier flight. (I know that is not possible in all cases)

I am not sure QF will be keen on giving ORC DSC's. Did they provide an alternative option?

Agree with TonyHancock - I'd be very surprised if QF agree to provide the ORC if the journey is not completed, even moreso if they've provided a refund. Did QF not offer a later JQ alternative? As much as this may not have suited, it would have provided an avenue to claim ORC (including your DSCs!).

No JQ alternative offered. Spoke to a couple of people who were not so helpful, then one person who was reasonably confident her supervisors would process the ORC. Also sent an email. Will let you know the outcome.

I doubt ORC for the trip and DSC has no chance.

After refund there is nothing to justify awarding SC and I hope QF doesn't start handing out status on "intent to travel" alone. Can I book a J-flex to LHR, cancel, get a full refund and claim ORC ?

I did tell them I didn't care about the payment and that I just wanted the credits. The refund was their doing.

The situation you have stated is quite different with cancellation from the airline vs cancellation from the passenger.
