Qantas to fly 300 Oprah fans to Sydney > AviationRecord.com - Latest and Breaking Aviation and Airline News
Qantas will fly the entire audience of The Oprah Winfrey Show to Australia in December.

CEO Alan Joyce says linking with the US talk show represented a "fantastic opportunity for Qantas and the Australian tourism industry".

“The Oprah Winfrey show has a world-wide audience across 145 countries and we are delighted to partner with Tourism Australia on this amazing opportunity to showcase the best Australia has to offer,” Joyce said.

A good move by QF and tourism Australia i reckon.

I saw this on Sunrise this morning - the advertising for QF and Oz will be great. Amusing to see John Travolta coming out of the fake QF aircraft on the stage...

All fun and games until the aircraft goes tech:D

And the good old NSW taxpayer is paying for the hotel bills according to this mornings Daily Telegraph.
I hope the tourism picks up after the shows. Things have been pretty quiet for a lot of tourist operators since the GFC.

The PR and media from this has been amazing.

Best thing Tourism Australia has done for a long time!

Great work by Qantas jumping all over it as well.

I read this morning that Oprah has a daily audience in the millions and that it is shown in 140+ countries. This is a serious win for tourism oz and for QF. I also understand that she will film a couple of shoes from different places around the country not just the ‘Oprah’ House (cringe).

300 hotel rooms in Sydney – easy and not that expensive, Four Points could do this alone. You would also find that Oprah would have an agreement with a chain and her accommodation is taken care of anyway.

This is a good promotion and so long as nothing goes massively amiss this can only be good for tourism to Australia. Just remember that this will be 300 people who are not only traveling to Australia but traveling to Australia with Oprah. The whole thing will have quality people doing the filming and let’s be honest, Oprah wants it to look pretty amazing too.

Can't wait until the NoNews negative spin on this and how this $3mil is a waste of 'tax payers' money and how QANTAS will screw it up :cool:

Oprah House...cringe-worthy for us but the Americans will eat it up :D

All that money spent on those stupid ads when all Tourism Oz had to do was get Oprah down here!

I'll be applying for tickets to be in the audience!
Apparently they will be offered Olympic Games-style ballot.
I wouldn't want to miss it :D

Sorry to be the negative one again but do people actually think this is going to provide a boost to tourism in this country?

So all these years spending millions and millions on overseas advertising trying to promote Australia has not done very much for our tourism when all we had to do was bring out Oprah for one show and all the Yanks will start flocking to Australia for their holidays.

I do think we’d have a better shot with Ellen :p

Given the potential, I reckon $3m isn't a bad punt.

I'm tipping they'll be heading over on a B747 as I believe Travolta is rated on the type
