Online check in and points upgrades

Does online check in (say at T-24 hours) have any effect on how requested points upgrades may come through?

If it is a domestic flight your upgrade should be confirmed as soon as requested I thought rather than in the lottery that is Int'l flights:

If flying int'l you can't OLCI.

Oops. My bad. I was referring to international flights and keep forgetting you can't online check with QF yet.
