Hi All

I think I shot myself in the foot here, so I'm asking for the advice of those more knowledgeable!

I booked a one way award seat to NYC for next October, and now I need to return leg. I assumed (I know... I know) a one way ticket was half that of a return, but it's not looking that way (eg no Red E-Deals, looking like $1k one way on the saver fare).

Anyone know a way around this? Can I tack on the return leg to my current booking and avoid the crazy fares?

Thanks in advance!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Not enough points, unfortunately. Got the one-way on the 1/2 "price" award seats offer, and my return date was outside the dates.

Cancel the award fare, cop the small points penalty and rebook a cheap return revenue fare.

UPDATE: Phoned the call centre and I managed to get it fixed - the operator cancelled the booking, rebooked both ways on award. Super friendly operator, too.

How many QF points do you have left exactly? Is it only one ticket you need to book?

Why not use AA points ex LGA or JFK to HNL as taxes are only about USD5.50. I know LAX/HNL is 25K points so ex East Coast would be more.

Then purchase a one way fare on the JQ site ex HNL or NZ via AKL.

What dates are you looking at?

The OP seems to have it sorted. Just interested though Chelzmate as you said you managed to cancel the original award booking and book a return award instead. You must have had enough points then.

Didn't go through. Have to figure something out. Looking at AA

best bet is LAX to Hawaii then jetstar home, this should be around the $700-800 mark i think maybe cheaper if u get a sale

Boy did I shoot myself in the foot with this one.

Taking advice from Chesty and cancelling. Return to LAX is currently approx. $1200 AUD, so I'll just sort it out in cash.

Thinking I was becoming knowledgeable about the whole FF thing.. turns out I have a LOT to learn!

If you've only lost the 5,000 points for cancelling, that's not a bad outcome. Part of the attraction of awards is their flexibility that way.
