The cost of fuel is is eating into Jetstar Asia’s profits, according to financial reports, which found an 80 percent drop in the airline’s profit due to higher oil bills and competition.

Profit reports lodged by Singaporean regulators revealed Jetstar Asia’s profit of S$4.37 million for the 12 months ending June 2012 were down from S$22.47 million, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
Although dubbed by Qantas to be one of its most profitable businesses, the airline has accumulated losses standing at S$67 million in 30 June 2012

Don't think Jetstar Asia was ever "one of the most profitable"

QFF
Jetstar (Australia)
Qantas Domestic

are the ones that contribute the most.

Jetstar Asia still made a profit, with a net margin of >1%.... Singapore Airlines latest net margin (quarterly was 2.3%)

since they don't usually make a profit at all it's not a bad result!

They use those very words on their own website but its clarified:

In the first half of the financial year ending 31 December 2011, Jetstar Asia became the most profitable low fares carrier in Singapore.

Its also a line thats been touted for quite some time, eg Buchanan in 2011

'In revenue terms, Jetstar has become the largest low-cost carrier in Asia and continues to remain one of its most profitable with a sustainable future,' Mr Buchanan said. 'Today's fleet announcement by the Qantas group for Jetstar provides stronger foundations to support our growth, in particular out of Singapore

Should the next sentence read, "which by the end of the financial year was a loss"?

This sounds like marketing nonsense - they might be more profitable than Tiger in Singapore but not in Asia.....Air Asia's Malaysian unit would trounce them every year.
