My trip to Paris last year for 2 nights saw me eat quite possibly some of the worst food I've ever eaten on a trip!

So........

Off to Europe next month with Mr Mella and looking for a FANTASTIC place to eat, preferably with views looking at the Eiffel Tower. Only there for 1 night so want it to be a standout. I did look at Jules Verne inside the Tower, however the reviews are very mixed.

Any suggestions?

Hmmm...not what I was expecting when I opened this thread!

You and me both! I was thinking the OP was asking how to arrange a menage.... oh, never mind... :p

I'm sorry I can't help you in earnest - when we were in Paris we ate at fairly average places, but then again we weren't exactly lining our pockets with cash, so we did the best we could and without having to speak any French. (I'd say we did OK). Suffice to say I'm not too sure what you mean by the worst food you could ever eat on a trip to Paris.

If money is not really an object then I'm sure someone here must have a means to point you in the right direction. There are reportedly many good establishments of distinction in Paris.

The reviews of Jules Verne may be mixed but for the one night standout, with the criteria you have listed, I'd go for it. As you'll know it isn't cheap but it is an unforgettable experience, particularly if you are lucky with a clear night. I'm envious! If you want to have an absolutely top end dining experience there are better restaurants in Paris (happy to name some from my experience if you want that) but they do not happen to be in the Eiffel Tower.;)

Doesn't have a view of the Eiffel Tower however, very close & a truly gorgeous Parisian walk to the tower after enjoying a wonderful meal - La Fontaine de Mars Google Maps

Love this place.

Not with views of the ET but ....

Bistro Paul Bert - Quintessential Parisian Bistro
Chateaubriand - Inaki's food is brilliant....has a Tapas style place next door also called Le Dauphin....in the San Pelligrino Top 50 also
Agape Substance - Awesome
Frenchie - Awesome
Septime - Awesome
Le Chapeau Melon - set menu for 35 yiros....super food and great wine list

If you have an iphone download the Fooding Guide and search by arrondissment....the ET is in the 7th....their recommendations (They have 20 is you check the app or website)

Le Voltaire
Le Bistrot de Paris
Chez L'Ami Jean

For what it's worth they don't rate Jules Verne at all.

Depending on when you are going I can give you some more detail in a couple of weeks as I will be in Paris for a week doing a magazine article on wine bars and restaurants.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Will have a good look at all the names mentioned today..

and as for those of you with dirty minds...feel free to join us! (for dinner that is!)

Good luck to you......what a fabulous way to spend a week:!:

Green with envy:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

I will be there in a week for about a week..
Targets include
L'Arpege
L'Astrance
Chez L'Ami Jean
Septime
Yamt'cha
None above with views

Places with great food and service I could recommend from past experience
L'Arpege
Le Atelier de Joel Robuchon
Guy Savoy
Le Cinq

The top of the Pompidou has great views but mediocre food and service

My suggestion - go for the great food and sevice, take in the views in the nice stroll to dinner and back

Book early.. especially if you only have one night to play with

You'll always get differences of opinion. I think that the food at Jules Verne is good but it is not cutting edge etc You are paying for the total package and then some. I know Septime very well. It was our local last year. Food is amazing and reasonably priced for the high quality. If it's mainly about the food you can't go wrong there Paul Bert I think is totally overrated. Very hit and miss. Another in the vein of Jules Verne is Tour D'Argent with its view of Notre Dame.

KitKat, with that target list it would be really good if you'd give feedback after your visit. We are there for 6 weeks from early October.

It would be great to have feedback from tehuringa too.

Very much looking forward to it! Doing street food articles on SIN & BKK this trip as well along with wine stuff from Champagne, Chablis, Jura, Bugundy and Rioja ..... Pinxtos pieces on San Sebastian & Logrono too..... Busy month...... Then detox ;)

I think we can all agree that there will be plenty of disagreement :p That said, I thought the food at Jules Verne was 'good' but the experience was much more for the view and location. The ladyfriend I was with was extremely, extremely impressed by the experience but personally the food isn't that memorable for me. And gosh it costs.

Le Atelier de Joel Robuchon

I went to the one in London and it was one of the best meals of my life, so I reckon the branch in Paris would be a really good bet.

Tour D'Argent is a good suggestion...fantastic meal...that duck dish when they bring the "duck press" to the table is pretty special. Haven't dined at Robuchon in Paris but have been to Hong Kong & Macau and they were amazing meals.

Ditto that! I've got 5 days there over the New Year period so am also interested in updates/feedback/trip reports etc :)

Hey I'm heading to Singapore and LOVE street food, could you make sure to post about it please? And pretty please maybe PM me so I don't miss it??

Ok, some pics from L'Atelier..
This is not a "fine dining" place - you sit on stools, looking into the kitchen. There are no little stools for your Hermes.. if you are in to this, go to Le Cinq
The pics are from previous visits. Have not uploaded recent Xmas dinner there (weird in that they are open on Xmas night)
The food and service is great

Loved it so much we ordered a second portion
