I have a one night stay in NYC coming up in late November and was after some expert advice.

Hotels:

I have got my VFF WP status match and am currently waiting for my HH diamond comp to come through, so I was considering staying at either the Waldorf Astoria (not the towers) Advance Purchase price $279 USD inc taxes or the Hilton Time Square $299 USD inc taxes...not sure if either has a Club lounge?

As I am only there one night I thought the area around Time Sq would be a good base as I just want to eat and look around not much time for anthing else.

Resturants.

Also would like to eat somewhere nice around this area...not after a 3 Star Michelin but some good Italian would be great.

Any thoughts on the better hotel or resturant Idea's would be appriciated.

Forget the Waldorf. It is a cough shoot and you usually lose.Stayed there twice as a diamond. You get diddely squat.
No lounge access(the Astoria lounge is only open to Towers guests and closes at 1pm.).
The complimentary breakfast is a coupon for a coffee and bagel at starbucks.
There are many quite poor rooms-2 of which I have seen.

Not been to the Hilton times square but it gets good reviews.
No lounge.
but proper beffet breakfast in restaurant.
Rooms meant to be larger and certainly newer.

I have stayed at Hilton on 6th-a zoo.
DT Metropolitan-very noisy.
DT Suites Times Square.Good but often expensive.

PS.Restaurants.I dont think that in the USA good and Italian often go together when talking of restaurants.
Just off Times square is Virgils-a BBQ restaurant. Not the best in the city but pretty good.Always jumping.better to get there early otherwise usually a long wait for a seat.We usually turn up 5-5.30pm.

Thanks drron...I was wondering why the Waldorf seemed so cheap...will probable go for the Hilton Times Square...pity there is no lounge though!

With only a short stay in NYC the last thing you would want to do is be holed up in an executive lounge whilst there is soooooooo many places to have a great meal and a drink.

Why Times Square? It's congested with people just lolling around, the traffic isn't great, and taxis don't like it. Locals avoid it, and there are far nicer and more interesting places to stay in New York.

Happy to hear any suggestions!

But with only 1 night why not?It is after all one of the most recognisable spots in NYC.
If staying longer i totally agree.

Another option could be the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square, if you want to for go the exec lounge and just be close to Time Square/Broadway.
As for Italian restraunts, check out www.carminesnyc.com

Thanks Blackadder...the Hilton Garden Inn looks like a viable option.

Also checked the Carmines web site...it looks decent!
