Got the email yesterday and thought at over 200 passengers that it was too large for us as an Expedition ship.
But the video looks good. Will be of limited appeal personally as it will only be repositioning voyages between the poles that would be of interest.

oh boo drron. Go ask mrsdr.ron and see if she agrees.

I am prepared to take one for the AFF team and try this out. Dame Older, care to join?

Crowd funding anyone?

More than 200 significantly limits the Antarctic potential of a ship. Restrictions have been placed on number of landings etc. The best is <100, but under 200 is really the upper limit.

Plenty of time to save up:

Scenic, known for its award-winning river cruises, will be riding on the high seas with the news that the forward-thinking company is launching the Scenic Ocean Cruising Line. The first ship, the Scenic Eclipse, is set to sail on 31 August, 2018.
Scenic, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, has raised the bar with its first Discovery Yacht, withScenic Eclipse a six-star ultra-luxurious mega-yacht carrying 228 guests in 114 all-verandah suites. The ship will have the highest passenger ship ice class rating, which will alow luxurious cruises to the Arctic and Antarctic, and with two helicopters and a seven-seat submarine on board, guests will be able to explore like never before.
Scenic Eclipse’s maiden voyage will be from Istanbul to Venice, before sailing to the America, Antarctica, Europe, the Mediterranean and the Arctic and Norwegian fjords.

,snip.
Crowd funding anyone? 

Sure thing, how much will you need? I couldn't even find an estimate of cruise costs on the sites I looked at. :(

And I don't think they'll be landing their helicopter right next to a column of penguins, either ;) .

We have been to the Arctic and Antarctica on the Silverseas Explorer ( 100 passengers ) so I don't think we need to do that again.

But I would be interested in trying one of their other itineraries :D but I did see a cost of $2500 a day

Here you go

So we have two takers so far - Dame Older will be here shortly. That will make three.

Up to $7500 a day (bet that's USD) because of course, sharing would not be allowed.

I've found an Eclipse that is far more our cup of tea-the Crystal Eclipse.Only 62 passengers,4 restaurants and a submersible.Does Indian Ocean islands, middle east and Eastern Mediterranean.
So pushka it even does cruises out of Dubai!
Rates seem pretty reasonable.it is a refurbed and reflagged vessel but started with Crystal last month.
We would certainly be interested in cruises around the Seychelles or Croatia especially. But our trips booked up until mid 2017.
And it's lounge is the Cove lounge so we should be able to interest the young mr.cove in a cruise.;)

Here is a link to it's voyages-
Crystal Cruises

Mmmm. drron. Theres a nice cruise pre Christmas and a sweet little one just after. Mmm. Seychelles sounds nice :p

The Scenic Eclipse looks very like the Ponant yachts IMO, same shape overall by the looks of it. Had a great cruise booked on Crystal a few years ago but had to cancel unfortunately so didn't get to try them out.
Some of the Silversea expedition cruise itineraries on offer now seem to have a few too many land excursions/bus trips for my liking, though we did find the trip to the Arctic fabulous (only one bus excursion which was OK but many passengers chose to go back to the ship at lunch time rather than carry on).
Pushka, you need to focus on QM2 again!

We are booked into the Scenic information session on Tuesday - so will be glad to see what all the hype is about. We like the look of one of their cruises in 2018 !

Oh do tell. Have mostly written off this year. Without travel plans - mmmm. :(
Note that the ship has not been built yet so the first cruises are not till 2018. They have helicopter, zodiacs, kayaks, submersible sub on board just to spice things up a bit (some of these are extra cost as in $$$$ I would think).
This year has no cruise, unless I pick up a cheap AU number between now and Nov or in Dec. Mr LtL wouldn't like it much though. Even considering P&O Eden or Aria so that is bad

So we went to the info session today and now have a booking for a September 19 cruise Iceland to Quebec.
Nothing like thinking ahead.
