Not one I'd like to be involved with:

Plane skids off runway and stops on slope metres from sea in Turkey (if pay walled, Google the headline)

A passenger plane skidded off the runway just metres away from the sea as it landed at an airport in northern Turkey, local media images showed.

The Pegasus Airlines flight had taken off smoothly from the capital Ankara and landed in Trabzon late on Saturday, but skidded off the runway in the northern airport. No one was injured or killed in the landing.

Dramatic images from CNN Turk broadcaster showed the plane dangerously hanging off a cliff several metres from the Black Sea, its wheels stuck in mud.

Other images from Dogan news agency showed smoke coming from the trapped plane.

Pegasus Airlines confirmed in a statement on Sunday there were no injuries among the 162 passengers on board as well as two pilots and four cabin crew after they were evacuated.

Pegasus Airlines said it “had a runway excursion incident
”.

Its actually not quite as dramatic as this pic appears to show:

At first glance, it reminded me of the images of naval aircraft hanging over the side of an aircraft carrier...hooked.

I wonder how this happened? Around 1,000' of clear area beyond the runway. Plus it's nice and big. A 380 alternate. There's nothing particularly nasty in the weather. Low cloud and mist, but winds are light.

FR24 data all looks normal.

Must have been going pretty fast, or under sustained thrust, to plough off that far, given it was close to the end of the runway?

/black humour/
Not so much an excursion as a full contiki tour.....

Certainly just a little further and the nose would have crossed the shore. The evacuation from the aircraft would have been fairly challenging, particulcarly if any of the pax were infirm (pre or post crash!).

There is no reason for there to be any thrust, and if he was having trouble stopping, then straight ahead is a much better idea (the overrun has a couple of hundred feet of bitumen, then a bit more flat grass). It's not so much an overrun, as it is an excursion off the side. So, for whatever reason, he's lost control of it on the ground.

There are some quotes going around from pax in news stories that the nose was lower than the tail. As hard as it is to feel what is going on in the cabin, something that unusual would be rather noticeable - perhaps a front gear collapse?

looks real scary to me.. lucky no one is killed in this
