NOU to CHC 11 July

Hi All,

bit of a scheduling issue, I need to get from NOU to CHC on the 11th of July (arriving anytime before 8am on the 12th of July)
My issue is that I don't arrive into NOU until 8am on the 11th (and coming via sea and wont be able to get to the airport before 10am) thus missing the SYD and MEL flights out of NOU.

Preference is to avoid dicing with death airlines, but will look at any reasonable option, fare wise im not that fussed (within reason - i.e no. charter learjets ;P), just one of those rare have to be there moments.

Yes it can be incredibly difficult to just see a simple list of departures out of NOU (or any airport for that matter) for a particular date in the future, most booking engines require you to have a destination - which is pretty useless in this case as the main constraint is just getting out of NOU in the first place (after 10am on Friday 11th July). Of course going to the flightstats website you can see flightstats for Sun through to Thurs).

It seems that no one has invented a simple here I am on this date - where can I fly to website?

Just checked ITA Matrix web site as 1 way 11th July NOU-CHC = answer is that it cannot be done in less than 24 hours unless you get out of NOU by 9am ish - which you cannot do. Have a play with this, like I did and fiddle/knock out the durations > 24hrs and see what flights you are left with, they all rely on the QF flights to SYD and MEL or 16hr connections in VLI....

I doubt you will have any luck, the only worthwhile departure after 10 is to Port Vila, while the NZ service runs the next day arriving into AKL after 3PM

Yes indeedy, thats pretty much what I came up with as well, there is an options from NOU to NAN via VLI and overnight in NAN for a NAN-CHC flight which gets me there at 12.30 on the 12th.

that's the closest I have come up with so far.

Is there any other dodgier smaller carriers that fly around down there?

Maybe some sneaky way to get to Papetee (IATA: PPT, ICAO: NTAA) and from there you may have an option either NZ to Auckland or Air Tahiti Nui (TN) to Auckland? Connections would probably suck but a chance to tick off the A340 from your bucket list.

If you can make it to NAN here is another "horror show option", your 11JUL14 FJ262 VLI-NAN 1600/1715 then with a NAN-MEL flight on FJ or QF codeshare arriving in MEL at 10pm then a JQ A320 leaving MEL at 1145pm and getting you into CHC at 0500am on the 12th July.

Tough one - I think the mods might have to update the title of the thread from [REQUEST] NOU to CHC to something like [AFF CHALLENGE] or [MISSION IMPOSSIBLE] NOU to CHC !

that option through MEL looks ok, Ive certainly done worse flights, the two things that concerns me are the connex time in NAN and also the connex time in MEL, being a JQ bird they wont check through luggage will they, also any sort of delay and id be snookered. (Curse you JQ!)

Yes Island Time could screw things up pretty well VLI or NAN. This may sound crazy - but as everything from NAN onwards is theoretically a QF code share - would it be possible to simply ring up QF bookings and see if they can book the NAN-MEL and MEL-CHC as a 1 way Qantas ticket? I think the 1hr 45 late at night in MEL should be fine as you would be an international transit pax in MEL and are not entering AUS. Also would be a contender for a HLO trip in my opinion but even if your bags don't make the MEL-CHC leg they would eventually turn up 24hrs later in CHC. If you end up doing this you have to do a NOU-VIL-NAN-MEL-CHC Trip Report! I take it the occasion in CHC is totally fixed? If you are considering this it must be pretty important! I would have admitted defeat by now....

The cost of putting the whole thing together may make you look at the Learjet as a viable option again....
