Got a trip coming up in a few weeks with a friend. Booked a Getaway sale in happy hour a few weeks back which was half the price of an Elevate.

There's now a chance friend will be No Show but I will still be travelling as intended.

I don't care about not being able to get a refund for the 2nd pax.

Reading through the Fare Rules and Conditions of Carriage it is ambiguous as to whether failure to show of one of the pax will affect other pax on the same PNR, but separate tickets. Has anyone had any experience with this?

My interpretation is that if I fly the outbound my return should not be cancelled based on another pax on our PNR being a no show for the outbound.

6.3 Booking and Seat Allocation
(b) If you do not use your Booking. Depending on the Fare Rules which apply to your Booking, if you do not use the Booking, we may require you to pay a reasonable service charge in relation to your Booking, and may also cancel any onward or return Bookings.

Not sure if this is helpful but I had this issue when flying international with SQ. It didn't affect my ticket and still flew without an issue.

They just separate your friend into a separate PNR. They then cancel the ticket within that PNR. Unless it's a special discount for 2pax travelling together which would ring alarm bells when they try to do above

If it's domestic then you shouldn't have an issue.

I recently had a return QF booking BNE-SYD and was not going to use the first leg. That sector auto cancels when you don't check-in and the return flight remained in the booking and all was ok to travel.

Thanks for the replies. Yep, domestic.

At least I am guaranteed a shadow in Row 3 now if I end up travelling solo :)

Not necessarily. They may just as easily move someone in there. There is no such thing as a guaranteed shadow unless you paid for that seat as an extra seat.

They would have to move someone there very late in the check-in process. I would say good chance of a spare seat if check-in late.

This is probably because all domestic QF flights are "one-way" now. There's no such thing as a return booking any more.

If you had BNE-xOOL-SYD (for the sake of argument) and you skipped the BNE leg I doubt you'd be able to get on at OOL.

You raise a good point. A connection as opposed to a point to point return. If on the same aircraft and same flight (ala Queensland milk run) then I think the remaining sectors would be cancelled if no show on first sector.

What if I booked multi city BNE-SYD at 9:00am and then SYD-MEL at 7:00pm. This would be on the one itinerary but I still think you can skip the first leg and second leg would still be fine.

It would work for that because theres no valid bne-mel via syd fare... it prices as 2 one ways. It would not work though for ool-syd-mel if it was ticketed as ool-mel via syd as a through fare (which is a valid route)

Similar many years ago on QF AKL-MEL.
