No Reward Seats from AU to Bangkok? (17/18 April)

Hi All,

Trying to to get a reward seat, either Business or First, from anywhere in Australia (preferably Adelaide but whatever) to Bangkok for a Friend's wedding, would like to fly either 17th or 18th of April. I am Platinum with both Virgin Australia and Qantas and plenty of points in both accounts but for the life of me I cannot get a seat to get me out of this country with Qantas, VA or any of their damn partners.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Possible routes I may have missed or tricks to get seats available?

TLDR: no rewards seats in business or first available 17/18th April. Need to get to Bangkok on these dates. Points no issue as long as it is not too ridiculous. Suggestions?

Given you're a WP, asking QF to open up an award would be my first step (sorry I don't know that much about the VA side of things).

Also great availability via Avianca on Thai, for example first class is available on April 17 SYD-BKK for 65,000 points. I would do that by buying 31,000 at full price for USD930 (assuming no promo comes along in the meantime) and then using the "Flexible Payment" option to buy the remaining points for USD510 at the time of purchase. So USD1440 if that floats your boat.

Have you called QF Platinum and begged for a reward seat to be opened up for you?

Other than that, no idea. Looking for a reward seat 3.5 weeks out for travel in the middle of school holidays isn't ideal timing.

You do realise 18 April is Good Friday? I reckon everything would've been booked solid for months.

Tried to request but they said loads are just to full so their would be not point unless I wait until the week out. Which I may have too.

Just found out that I can go SYD to AUH in First then AUH to BKK in Business with Etihad via Virgin, looking like my best option right now but this will still take about 30 hours when it should only be an 8-10 hour journey.

Hoping not to part with cash apart from taxes if I can, but thanks.

Try calling QF and asking for MH 122 onto MH 796 on April 17... (SYD-KUL-BKK)

QFF is showing availability on the 16th BA J SYD-SIN.....easy to make your way from there.

Just got Singapore (via VA) Business from ADL to BKK through SIN. Must of released some more seats today! Thanks for all the suggestions.
