Has anyone else noticed the new vehicles appearing on the Hertz Australia website?

They're currently all still listed as 'Sold Out', but I hope this means they're soon to be available.

If you do a search for Sydney Airport, and scroll down to reveal all vehicle choices (21 in total), you will now see vehicles including:

Camry Hybrid
Lexus IS250 and RX350
Mercedes C200K and CLC200K
Mini Cooper S and Cooper S Cabriolet

No prices listed as yet.

Also just looked at Melbourne airport - there are 24 choices there now - a couple more 4WD options, which may have always been there, I can't remember.

I know that Hertz has done a deal with Mercedes-Benz for C200 and CLC200's. They will be delivered from 25th Feb onwards and will be on the fleet for 6 months as a trial.

Sure beats a Falcon as far as I'm concerned!!

I may be SLIGHTLY biased as I sell Mercedes-Benz for a living!!

Personally...... I prefer the E500 I drive!! Haha!

Ooh... I'm needing a car from Hertz Perth Airport in March (VIC Labour Day Weekend) for driving down to Margaret River and back. We're booked into a Toyota Aurion currently, will try for something nicer.

edited to add: none of the new Prestige Collection seem to be bookable for our dates. :( Would be nice to get the Lexus RX for such a long drive . :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks for the heads up.

Along these lines, I received an e-mail from Europcar on Friday which noted that they are adding Audi A5 convertibles to their fleet shortly. Much better car than the A4 convertibles they previously had!

Thanks for the heads up.

When returning my Hertz car into Sydney Thursday last one of the Desk staff mentioned that I was in line for an upgrade next time I came through and I should be seeing a Lexus!! I hope this is the case as the XR6's are a bit long in the tooth

Lets see what happens next trip :D

Out of interest, are you #1 Club Gold, 5 Star, or Presidents circle? Which group do you book and how often?

I drive a CL600, and I'd prefer a Presara or a Statesman to a C200 any day!

Any news, by the way, on when the CLxx_ gets relaunched as the SCxx_? (Or will it be Sxx_C?)

Well for those who are tired of driving their Mercedes', I'm sure Hertz will keep the Statesman offering ;)

Can't say I'd be sad to see the Aurion (Presara and the rest) scrapped completely. Ridiculous to have 200kw to the front wheels, and topped off with that bland plastic interior, it reminds you you're driving a car for people who hold no passion for driving...

(Don't want to start a flame war, just my personal opinion).

The acres of plastic "woodgrain" are more than a little tacky, but I was thinking mainly of the space-per-passenger rather than the quality of the trim. The C-class isn't the roomiest Benz.

The other thing I have ben thinking.... NYCGUY.... I rent a car 15 - 20 times a year.... I's still prefer a C200K Classic to a Statesman, G6, Aurion etc... etc...... I feel 'safe' in a Mercedes-Benz..

I think the Aurions from Hertz are the base spec ones from what I've seen, ie grey plastic and cloth trims. I mean, we booked one for only $148 for 3 days....

I laughed at the IS250 description - 5 adults??!! I wonder if they've tried sitting at the back...

My partner rang Hertz this morning to see if we could book the RX over the phone, they mentioned that the cars should be "loaded into the system" by the end of Feb.

I paid about that (perhaps a little more, but no more than $60/day*) for an Aurion Presara - fake woodgrain, leather, satnav, reversing camera etc...

It was an Aurion, so it was boring as hell, and front-wheel drive to boot (no thanks)...but my point being that Hertz do offer the upper-spec Aurions. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

* Inc all taxes surcharges etc... though that was an upgrade. Usually we pay that for a standard Falcadore (XR6, SV6 etc..). Upgrades tend to be about 1 in every 3 rentals.

NYCGUY.. pm me... There were 4 CL600's sold in AUS in the past 2 years... Would be good to know someone who has one!!

As he lives in Paris he may not be one of the 4 sold in Aust.

The best car ever rented by Hertz was the Maxima (crica 2006). Large, comfortable and a smooth V6. It was only around for about a year.

The best car Hertz has currently is the G6E (Falcon with all the trimings). Just crunches through the miles. Unfortunatly Hertz only has about 10 of these in Melbourne so getting one is a punt. The alternative is a Presara, becoming rare as they are pretty old and a Calais which is noisy and has the worst Bluetooth ever.

Can't say I am over the moon at the prospect of a C200K. They will be the base model with no 'toys'. Given I do some large trips (1400km in two days is my record and all through East Gippsland ). I do not want to spend that in a C200. Maybe the RX but definatly not a Mini.

Tried an A6 from Europecar once but their history of charging for every little scratch and the fact they charge for every KM over 200km a day stoped that.

Still, great to see that they are putting up some interesting vehicles. With luck we might see a E350 with diesel. Yes, I know..... But the ecconomy is awesome.

Points to Hertz on this one.

The good news for the C200 is that they will be the all new C200 CGI The replacement for the Kompressor. These are now Turbo Charged rather than Supercharged. I belieive theY may also have Comand Navigation which features voice activation. They all have Bluetooth standard along with MP3 compatible CD Changers.

Ahh, I stand corrected. :) I hope we get an upper spec one if we do end up with the Aurion, not that it'd make that much of a diff in terms of ride comfort etc but it's the other half's bday trip and some extra trimmings would be nice. :)

We tried to get an Audi convertible from Europcar for a "test drive" as it's one of the cars we're eyeing but they don't rent to P platers. Then again a convertible wouldn't be all that comfy (wind noise) for the long drive anyway, it's more a 'down the street for brunch/shopping and back' accessory.

Do they still come in leatherette or have they finally upgraded the seat trim to real leather on those?

Love the grey Birdseye Maple wood trim in the Avantgarde Mercs. :)
