Hi, and Happy New Year to my AFF friends and their families.

I took a quick BNE-MEL-BNE over the last few days.

Qantas have changed the safety message instead of individual staff members mentioning different parts of safety there is now just one female announce doing the message, to me it almost seemed a bit quick in their speech.

There seem to be a new dinner menu in Y, a chicken, pasta salad which I found rather tasty which is served in a box, with a choice of drink, beer/wine/soft drink and tea/coffee. Seems like tea/coffee option comes and goes with evening flights, now its back to serving tea/coffee with the meal which doesn't leave a lot of space on the tray.

Those new Qantas 737-800 BSI aircraft with IFE are great, would it be bad to complain that there are too many choices. I am not sure why they don't have just one page for each menu choice, example 8-10 music albums of a certain type instead of having different pages. Finally the news part is now working. You know what would be good is the previous entertainment loop which would be good, in the past you would get on the plane and then there would be the 12 channels of radio plus the overhead monitors with the news then a short sitcom or other type entertainment show depending on the length of the flight, would that be good if that was a channel by itself.

I read somewhere that Qantas can now tell what programs are popular so hopefully that helps in their choice of entertainment onboard.

I like on Qantas how you can choose row 4 at the 80 hour mark, yes Virgin I know you can't choose a better seat at the airport but it would be a nice feature for those that are Gold to select a better seat. I am Gold on both airlines.

I look forward to reading more of everyones stories and travel tips and tricks in 2014, I head back to Perth on the 6 January but I will be back east from time to time.

Interesting to hear Qantas can track the popularity of entertainment.

Do you think they can track the popularity to high status flyers against the holiday crowd? I know where I would slant the emphasis if that was available ?

it's not a perfect science.. in your mind..what do you consider to be popular with 'high status flyers' compared to 'the holiday crowd'??

I think the new safety demo coincides with the introduction of the new uniform. Like you, I found the FA presenter was talking a tad too quickly. Hopefully this will be addressed in the near future.

As an aside, there were a lot of 'thank yous' from both the flight crew and cabin crew on my flights recently, thanking us for the patronage and loyalty.

New safety demo? I am listening but obviously not paying attention.
