I got my new Qantas FF 'Qantas Cash' card in the post today - nice, smart and all. But I'm a QP member - and this doesn't have QP written anywhere on it. So I phoned the Help Desk and confirmed that if you are a QP member, you'll need to take your QP card IN ADDITION to the new smart QFF card to gain lounge access, especially overseas.

There is a logic to it, I guess - in 'real life' I'm QFF non-status, and as QP is a paid-for scheme, they'd be swapping cards in and out as members joined and expired, so having one smart card and one Club card makes sense. But I wonder how it is going to work with QFF status punters, as they change status up and down AND use the Qantas Cash facility on the card, as it has the 16-digit MasterCard # etc etc and links to their currency account. [Mine has a 5-year expiry date].

My WP card has an expiry two months after my renewal date. I suspect this allows them enough leeway of there is a delay in sending you the new card (down or maintained). Those who go through different status levels are going to continue to increase our collection of cards as per usual.

The mastercard number only changes for lost or stolen cards, apparently. Gold and platinum members do not need to carry a Club card.

I was wondering this today. What happens to the cash card component when it hasn't expired but your status needs updating because the expiry date on the card has lapsed. Does one potentially end up with 5 cards with the same MC # and expiry date?

Why do I have to have two cards??

I am a Bronze Qantas Club Member. Today I received my new QANTAS Frequent Flyer Card with ther new Mastercard Debit Card on the reverse side.

The new card had no mention of the fact that I was in fact a QANTAS Club Member.

I telephoned 13 11 31 and was advised that the new card is only a Frequent Flyer Card and that I would need to continue to use the QANTAS Club Frequent Flyer Card to access the QANTAS CLUB.

This means that I now have to carry two cards, why is it that Qantas Club Membership cannot be noted, included on the caqrd as it has been in the past?????

Re: Why do I have to have two cards??

Could it be something to do with the expiry dates for the cards??

Probably for the same reason that silver QFF cards don't include qantas club membership details.

Re: Why do I have to have two cards??

With such horrendous point earn rates, there's no excuse for anyone in this forum to use the cash card facility.
So if you don't use the cash card facility, there's no reason to carry it at all.

Moral of the story, you still only carry the one card.

Re: Why do I have to have two cards??

If you are only silver or below and a QP member you'll need both cards.

Todays challenge: Name one similar cash card with a better earn rate..(also, I think you need both cards anyway, regardless of your usage of the cash facility)

Doesn't you're status print out on your boarding pass so you don't need any card. Or am I the only person still getting a boarding pass. :D

Re: Why do I have to have two cards??

Just check in online and print your boarding pass, and enter the lounge with that.

Horrible points earn rates???? I think your post is a gross generalisation given we have members who have little or no income meaning no access to credit, yet still maintain WP, we also have members who have issues accessing credit due to misfortune, natural disasters or business failures, they can now earn a point on every $2 spent for no cost compared to using their debit card. It can also save you money which a credit card cannot if booking in under 7 days, vouchers are only good for Australian itins!

Maybe. I haven't had a boarding pass since the qtags were introduced. And I never check in online. Can't be bothered printing anything out. Stupid printer. Always jams when you most need it. :D

I actually have a need for a re-loadable MC/Visa card.

Looks like my Debit Visa card is going in the draw depending on the cost of the card. I easily churn through $1.5k spend on my debit Visa card a month and getting 750 points for the troubles might not be too bad.

I can confirm that you're not the only one. :D I love the cardboard boarding passes, and absolutely hate all the other printed methods.

Just check in online and print your boarding pass, and enter the lounge with that.

Can't do that when travelling on JQ... As the JQ boarding pass doesn't recognise QFF status just the number if you have paid for the plus bundle. :(

The benefits of having a duel QFF and prepaid travel card will grossly outweigh the fact that i like others non-status' now need to carry two cards to show QP. However, the new cards are 'chip' enabled so couldn't the QCash card just be scanned at the counter upon entering QP?

Its a bar code that gets scanned at the QP, not the Qchip.

In some/many international lounges you may get turned away without the card, especially for qantas club members. Printed status on BPs are fine for domestic.

Re: Why do I have to have two cards??

Do lounge staff even look at your plastic. Your boarding pass will have "Qantas Club Bronze and your FF no. on it.

In some international locations, yes.
