Just received an email detailing a new discount offer.

Purchase 4-11k miles receive 20% discount
12k+ miles is 30% discount or 2.45c (US)per mile Up to 150k.

From my quick calculations is slightly more expensive to my preferred destination of Asia than LM..but comes without the issues LM has atm..TG seems to have good availability and the ability to connect to the likes of Philippines under Mileage Plus which i couldnt find under LM.

Offer ends Feb 16.

From the LM thread offers being sent out are up to 50% off...if only i could be so lucky :/

Yep, I got the email. Mine is 15-29k miles 25%, 30-150k miles 40%.

Apparently it works for transfers too, did I read that correctly?

I got the 40% off for purchases of 30000 miles and above as well. It's a good deal. Might buy me some. Redemption rates to SEA is very good.

My offer is 50% off 40k-150k miles and 25% for 15k - 39k miles...pretty chuffed with the 50% discount and will almost certainly partake!

At 50% Id be buying too, unfortunately only 40% for me.

Nice! I wonder how they decide what offer you get? I wouldn't hesitate to buy at 50% off.

Agree, feeling like an unappreciated non ff who just signed up for offers atm, may sit this one out and hope the $ holds up and i get an improved bonus offer sometime in the nearish future :p

No idea. I have only bought miles from UA once and that was in their 100% extra free offer which ran in Sep 2014. Have since redeemed those miles with balance back at zero.

I would suggest those who want a better targetted offer who have never bought miles on the UA account before, that you make a small purchase now, so that you look like a potential buyer. I think this will help with you being targetted for the better offers in the future

This offer is quite unexceptional. As a 2MM I can get it at any time, but it's not that great.

If you can buy UA miles at less than 2 (US) Cents a mile, then that's OK. Otherwise I think it's too expensive and I won't buy.

But don't forget, with the Pacific Peso at USD 0.75 (that's what it will cost you), it's a fairly expensive proposition.

Wonder what the current rate is using the Mileage accelerator trick? Will have to check FT I suppose..

Good tip about the purchase a small amount. I thought the 40% I participated in was good, but a 50% would be better. We used our last lot for seats to SGN....

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I would have bought at 50% no questions asked, but at the 40% offer that I got..... it's a borderline decision given that it can be a few hundred $ difference buying 100k

Well, for me it's about 2.2c pm, which isn't very attractive, so I won't buy at that price.

From experience, it does seem to fluctuate (randomly) around 2c per mile, so when it's less I'll buy.

No desperate hurry as I have over 750,000 miles at the moment.

what redemptions do people use these for? SYD-BKK seems to be an obvious standout at 40K F o/w, but wondering if anyone's had success jagging F transpacific flights or other interesting ones?

Only ever used UA miles for Aus-Asia and vv. And, even then, only when I needed to do something I couldn't do with LM, i.e. >8hr layover, too many segments or SQ >14 days out where screenshot method doesn't work.
