I'm looking to book a flight from SGN-NRT with my Qantas points but the SGN segment is not available through classic rewards.

What's the best bang for my buck option flying this route and happy to stopover other cities as well.

You'll have to search on BA for JL flights and call QF to book. Just did a quick dummy search for April - JL750 is the flight you're after on a 787 departing @ 8.20am arriving at 4pm.

Availability looks good - have found availability for 4 pax in J from the 12/4 through to 17/4

Yeah tried searching BA but weren't able to sign up for their rewards program. Is there a way around it?

You do not sign up for the BAEC program.
You cannot transfer QFF points onto any other FF program.
As mentioned by Yld200, you need to phone up QFF and tell them you want to use your QFF points for which flights.

Yes that I understand but in order to search for rewards flight with British Airways you need to be a member of their rewards program right or else you wouldn't be able to check the JL rewards flight.

Of course not . But best way is to join BA not to redeem using BA Avios - but instead just to use their search engine to find the flights you want - then call QFF to book them. Saves a lot of trial and error over the phone with QF.

To join BA you need an address outside the SW Pacific - If don't know anyone overseas - a hint is to accidentally select the wrong country with a different country on the drop down list that is very close in spelling to Australia...

That's the answer I was looking for. Thanks and oh btw managed to find rewards flight using Japan Airline. It pays to know these little tips and tricks.

With booking via telephone does everyone have to pay the booking fee or is there a way to avoid having to pay booking fee?

So you can just say to Qantas because it can't be booked online that I do not need to pay the booking fee?

Can you pay over the phone with Qantas giftcards to avoid cc fees?

I don't think this would be possible given you're talking about a reward booking with points. I understand the fees etc are a paid charge on top, but QF gift vouchers don't quite work that way.

Another question is there a way to book Jetstar flights? I want a flight from SGN-SIN with Jetstar but Qantas keeps saying they don't depart from SGN.

I have often searched awards on 3K BKK-SIN and KUL-SIN without issue. I have also been offered QR award flights BKK-HAN followed by 3K award flight HAN-HKG.

But for the life of me cannot work out why 3K awards ex-SGN are not offered.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

bit of a long shot thought I admit but...
could this have something to do with the whole Jetstar Vietnam saga?

A related question to rewards.

I'm looking for DXB-MEL in 2018. QF rewards show no availability for the dates I want, Emirates' search engine is down (and has been for ~72 hours). I just looked at AAdvantage and there are F seats on QF2 on the date I want on the AA site but not on the QF site. Is this a situation where I ring QF or do I scramble to transfer points to AA and book the QF flights through AA. Or is this "phantom availability" ? I've been trawling through the AFF PDFs and threads for the past few hours and this is doing my head in!

Assistance/advice gratefully accepted.

Phantom I'd think. There is a better site to check U - is it JAL? You can book and put flights on hold for 5 days? on AA. If you get the error message while booking it's phantom.
