Hi all,

I have three layovers of varying length (between three and six hours) at Nairobi airport in December and I don't have lounge access due to the tickets we have booked: according to Etihad's website, EY don't have a lounge there that I might have been able to use as a DJ gold so this is not an option, unfortunately.

Has anyone ever used one of the lounges at Nairobi airport and can advise whether they are worth the entry fee? Alternatively, are there any recommendations on how to kill the time? I hear the airport is neither very nice nor modern so I worry a bit about how to spend the time between flights... Any help/ input/ comment would be greatly appreciated!

I would leave the airport on the longest layovers and head over to the nearby Giraffe Manor - spending time in that airport doesn't seem overly desirable. If giraffe's aren't your thing, I would say that paying for a lounge pass is a must.

Perhaps some other members can comment on what lounges would be best.

We will have the pleasure of 4 hour connection in Nairobi in early August and was wondering what the lounge situation is like in Nairobi? My QF WP will be of no use as we will be flying Kenya Airways from The Seychelles to Johannesburg. I have signed up to Flying Blue but my newly acquired "Ivory" status, which is effectively NB so will effectively have no status, and therefore presumably no access to the Kenya Airways Lounge? Is there a pay option? There is limited information on the internet and I cannot see if Kenya airways allows payment for access and if it is worth it?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

geordieladinoz, we accessed the Kenya Airways Lounge using our Virgin gold card. Upon check-in in Kigali, we could not get the boarding pass for the connecting Etihad flight from Nairobi to Abu Dhabi and once the EY service desk was staffed, we got our boarding passes and inquired about lounge access. I am quite certain that we should have been granted access, particularly as we flew Y but it worked.

Money will probably also work but to be honest, the lounge was far from spectacular. Having said that, Nairobi airport is a mess and I can only warn you, those plastic chairs are hard like a rock!

As of October, the lounge at NBO is pretty minimal, but they are appearing to build a new airport terminal so perhaps it will/has improved. The existing lounge has some wifi, some soft drinks, a handful of dubious snacks. Dingy and crowded and kinda tatty. Definitely not worth paying to access.

Giraffe Manner is great for overnight, but it's the other side of town and the traffic can be diabolical.

My friends and I went to the food court (about 4 shops). Simply drank coffee and had a snack with a few good laughs.

The place is fairly chaotic.
