My Last visit to the old BNE Dom J lounge. I checked in yesterday using OLCI (separate booking to my friends) and would you believe it when I asked for my boarding pass at the lounge I got my first ever op-up!

I should add I'm a WP and the plane is full. I'm fortunate that there are none/not many solo P1/CL who booked Y on this flight.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

And your friends were down the back!
Mmm, wonder what they would have been thinking at that time you did the royal entry as first on or last on, assuming you were all flying on the same plane.
To get back to the gist of the thread though, I do know the feeling of what it is to get an op up, a total unexpected shock, and yes, I have had one in 20 years of flying with QF.

Congrats. Its always a nice feeling and a pleasant surprise.
I've had 2 myself this year but none for the last couple of years. I was lucky to be on a couple of packed flights.
i almost always use mobile checkin so didn't even notice until i boarded the plane and the FA read it out.
I still remember times past when i'd have a printed boarding pass and it would beep when scanned - indicating a seat change, almost always an OP UP. I used to love that sound!

I could have gone to visit my friends during the flight but I decided not to.

Everything about Business feels so much better when you didn't have to pay for it.

Actually come to think of it this was my first op-up due to overbooking. Several years ago a direct flight was cancelled so I got an upgrade on the second leg of a domestic trip up north. That was back when a family member having QANTAS Club membership and work plans being put out by the change seemed to carry a fair bit of weight. This is my first time getting one based on my own loyalty with QANTAS.

Would love to get another op-up sometime but expect it will be a long time in the unlikely event it ever happens again. I do have a paid trip in Domestic Business coming up so won't have to wait too long before trying Domestic Business again.

It was certainly something to enjoy and remember for a lifetime!
