I know many of you go through New York frequently, and on Australia day in NYC there's a fantastic event that may just make your trip not so long. It's a black tie Gala held at the Waldorf=Astoria on Saturday the 26th. It is a little pricey at $300 a head, but will be well worth it.

The event is the culmination of the G'Day USA week.

Info can be found at G'DAY USA.

Unfortunately the "highlight" of the event is Shannon Noll, apparently. I intend on being suitably drunk by that time.

An unfortunately none of my wine will be consumed at the event.

There is also a smaller event on in Boston on the 22nd, which is considerably cheaper at $150 per head, and isn't black tie.

I don't think mere alcohol will be sufficient to block out that particular horror.

On a serious note, why the hell did they choose him, it makes us look like a bunch of hicks, OK so Christine Anu is also singing, but a winner of Australian Idol, please.

I'd rather hear the Wiggles.

Oh, so that's who/what Shannon Noll is/are.

[Note to self ... no, I probably don't want to "get out" more.]

roryg,

Although I don't claim to be a huge fan of the guy he is really an alright singer.

You could do a LOT worse :!:

He's certainly better than the winner of that series, Mr Afro Sebastian. IIRC he was the runner up.

The event does look good though (despite the musical talent), thanks winetraveller for posting.
