Hey Guys, I have an android HTC phone locked to the three network in Australia. I am going to Singapore in the morning. Only for a few days.

The three website has not been that helpful, and searching through here I have found old information.

Just wanting to find out the best network to select on arrival, won't be making too many calls.

It is probably a case of just suck it up a pay what three charge me for the few calls/sms I will take or make when there.

I am also assuming my phone is locked and can not be used overseas.

If you plan on leaving your 3 sim in your phone in Sing you will get these rates regardless of which network you choose (ZONE 2 for Singapore)

Zone 2
Voice calls per 30 secs flagfall of 40cNational Calls50c
Calls to Australia and other countries$1.50
To receive calls50c
Video calls per 30 secs flagfall of 40National Calls$1.00
Calls to Australia and other countries$3.00
To receive calls$1.00
MessagingSMS from your mobile60c

Recommend checking with 3 that International Roaming is activated on your service also.

Thanks for the feedback - I guess there is no charge to receive a text, and the data at $15/mb means my data switch will be thrown to the off position :)

And yes - confirmed roaming and international calls are now active.

I'm pretty sure that you can call up 3 Care and ask them to unlock your phone for you. They usually give you a code to enter into your phone and its also free.

Just did it - all automated - they will send the unlock code in about two hours.

In theory it shouldn't matter if it's locked, it should roam to the allowed networks.... at least that what it does in my experience?

Yes thats right. I guess with an unlocked phone, you also have the extra benefit of buying a SIM card overseas and using it for local calls - a lot cheaper than international roaming thats for sure!

That's what I will be doing.

I stupidly racked up $400 in data costs in a few hours in SIN... I am on 3 and now plan better.

And the worst thing is you probably said to yourself, I'll only be on for a few minutes, how much could I rack up?!
